salam everyone
i sincerely hope that everyone is fine where ever they are. well guys i have been following the discussions on this forum quite regularly. now there is a discussion that pia is leasing b-777 which is good but honestly i think the management at pia should have their thinking caps on. they should seriously think about generating enough revenue to pay for the leasing costs and then there is also a discussion regarding the flights to iah which are not generating enough revenue. and i am not sure about the ATR'S as well. i hope pia is buying them rather than gettin them on lease which will add more to financial woes of the airlines and yes plese can u guys tell me about the 737's as well. when will they be retired and what are the possible replacements for them. my friend has told me that pia is considering a320's and 737-700/800 series. how far is this true? sometimes i am amazed that an airlines like emirates that started with a leased plane from pia can expand and be profitable where as pia is i think still 10 years behind them.
my dads away on a flight so i dont have an inside scoop on whats cooking but i my guess would be that even if all 12 777s arrive the 743s will not immidietely be withdrawn. the 773s are due in late 07 or 08 and with the opening of new routes and increased frequencys the 747 would still take its slice in the flight schedule mostly flying the gulf and uk routes. jawed shaikh has already absorbed 6 fes on permenant managerial jobs from the a300 whose promotion to the 747 was a long shot. although as far as fleet planning is concerned he hasnt seemed to be very 3 man aircraft oriented, specially after assurances to fena that he d try and convince the management to look in to 74Fs like some major air carreers. i just really hope that the jumbos dont retire before 10/11 as per the initial fleet plan. kirmani has so far only hinted at the possibility of combi groundings next year , so i have every reason to hope.!!! and yeah 12 777... lets see how they pay the lease rentals specially after having faltered the last two....!!!
and Charliedelta11 i remember u talking about 743s grounding, not the 74m...!!
By 2008 the 743's and 742's will be phased out , and then PIA will maintain a fleet of ATR's , 733's , A310's and 777's only .
and u said it was an impulsive fabrication on part of the DFO...so there

and how much more cargo can the 773 carry compared to the 772 ER and LR ?
And i've heard PIA's leased/about to lease another A310 ... is this true or another baseless story ?( whats the obsession with A310's anyway!?>
dude the 743s are here to stay for another 4-5 years and they re grounding will not be sudden but in phases. 08 was the timeline for the 74ms grounding which might happen next year. thats just it. induction of a few 777s which are not by any calculation replacements for much larger 743s , except for the 773 that might be deemed as one though in the configuration that pia will be flying them they still would fall short by the number of seats which are said tobe around 360 and not 400. in any case 747 pilots retiring a year or two after 08 will never be sent to the 777s even if what u were saying is true, as a amtter of policy. besides until we hear of the 744 induction theres no way the management wud want to phase out the 743s. bfy, bfw and bgg are all around 55000 hours old.
The 777-300 carries 368 passengers in a three class layout, first class, business class and economy class.
PIA however uses two classes only, business and economy. So we take out the spacious first class and add more economy seat.
My guess is that PIA will manage between 390 to 400 passengers on its 777-300ERs.
Why does PIA need seven extra 777s with 18 months, obviously to replace the six 747-300s and two 747-200s.
My guess is by end of 2007 or early 2008 all the 747s will be gone.
What is the list price difference between the 777-300ER and the basic 777-300???
If the 777-300 can cover every single 747-300 sector then why pay more for the Extented Range version.
PIA can save a large sum of money if the basic model is bought. As for the higher MTOW, most of that will be fuel, and only good for the range and not for the passenger or cargo payload.
The 777-300 was designed as a 747-100/200/300 replacement, versus the 777-300ER I feel is a 747-400 replacement.

I am working closely with the corporate planning directorate. New faces are coming with change of plans. There is a sentiment that the 743 fleet will be cut down into half in 2 years.
In PIA Flight ops is normally the last one to be updated. You are still hanging onto old news.
hmm...this brings me to my next question..will these 777's be suitable replacements for the 743 and 742 series ? ofcourse..they are fuel efficient..and will save PIA on JP1 cost...but other than that..will PIA's total seat factor change in any way ?
the popular sentiment 5 years back was that the fokker fleet was on its way in a matter of months. pia now follows a corporate fleet plan which still stands. if they officially change that it would make the 743 retirement more plausible in 2 years. rumors also cropped up that the 744 were comming in. whats objective and definitive is the fleet plan of any airline, general offhand talk really doesnt mean anything least of all in pia.!! sentiments are often an offshoot of wishful thinking but operational constraints are what gives them a reality update. 3 773s cannot replace the whole 747 fleet, and i dont think pia would want to use these planes for hajj and yearlong gulf routes atleast for the first few years of their induction.as of now the much older combis havent even been expunged from the fleet what to talk of the 743s. the fast induction of 777s is not a replaceement measure in totality, it has more to do with the route expansion plans of pia. plus the chairman has assured fena that any change to prematurely ground 743s would be immidietely notified to them so they could plan out their remaining years of service or they could go with the 743s to their new owners like was offered to the one on the ab4 which none of them opted for. jawed shaikh also said that whtever induction plans the airline went ahead with the 743s would not be deleted till the timeline in the fleet plan. in a recent meeting with president fena the chairman said that he saw most fe reaching their age of superannuation, so these 777s do not endanger the future of the 743 fleet in pia. or thts something i would like to believe...!!
This is really just what you would like to believe. Never has PIA inducted new aircraft at this rate. Even if they want to keep the 743 for some distant reason, there are just not enough senior pilots around to keep both fleets flying at full strength.
