pk711 delay

Post by SENIOR »

sector khi-lhe-man-jfk
ap-bfu left khi for lhe, after departure from lhe
around 30mins into the flt eng no.03 was shut down due heavy vibration bound for man.
acft diverted back to khi since capt could not maintain the acft on 03 engines.
acft change at khi to ap-bfw around 10hrs late.
after second departure ap-bfw developed navigation probs but capt decided to carry on to man. engineers at man replaced appropriate part at man.
ap-bfw arrived at man 1945lt over 10hrs late.
departure at man further delayed due abv reason.
departed around 2200lt around 11-12hrs late.

not the best of flts i'd admit showing that the 747s are not as healthy as they once were

bfu being the oldest743 still flies safely from what i ve heard.lucky it was a 4 engined aircraft that encountered engine failure over the atlantic. this explains why virgin stands for 4 engines 4 safety over oceans specially on long haul sectors. normally a 747 can fly on even 2 engines with max payload but i guess the capt thought it wud ve been safer to land being in closer proximity with the originating base of the flight. navigation probs in the aircraft show nothing but maintenance inadequacies.

ref my previous post reg ap-bfw it was actually the auto-pilot which required attention nd was not a navigation problem.
