What was a PIA A/C doing at Heathrow this morning?

Post by cpt_747 »

Well, I started work at 06:00 and when I got at work, I saw an aircraft parked at one of the Hard Stands near Terminal 5. I thought it was ELAL and drove off. But later one of my colleagues told me that she saw a PIA 747-200 parked at T-5.

Have they started morning flights or something? Because I saw the tail and wing lights were ON. I am sure it didn't stay over night. As they never leave their lights ON if they were to stay over night (except those, which are parked at live stands).

Later that plane left for Karachi at 17:00 along with another PIA aircraft (747-300 I presume) to Lahore at 17:05.

Any information will be appreciated.
The orbital speed of the Earth around the Sun averages about 30 km/s or 18 mps (108,000 km/h or 67000 mph).
Which means we're travelling 97 times the speed of sound. And yet we can't feel the motion,

Maybe it was one of the special charter flights PIA is operating.

A chartered Pakistan International Airlines cargo flight, loaded with emergency relief goods, donated by the UK charities and Britons for the quake-striken people will depart for Islamabad here on Friday
Plus, that flight left for Karachi at 17:00 UKT. Even if it was a relief flight, why would it go to KHI when it should be heading for ISB/LHE? :?

Two ideas i can think of:

1. The aircraft had a "technical fault" and it was fixed overnight and left the next morning ( if its an B742M, this has happened many time before ).

2. Could be relief flights first going to KHI then maybe the cargo will be disppersed through other flights to ISB/LHE...

That was yesterday's PK788 to Karachi. For some reason yesterday's flight didn't go till today.

I think it will be second reason because due to heavy rush of planes these day at ISB, relief goods are taken there by 3-4 flights (probably C-130 or B707).

PK788 doesn't fly out of LHR on Thursdays, it leaves on Wed evening. This could very well be the charter flight carrying relief goods, the 74M being the best a/c to do that job. It probably made a stop in ISB and then continued onto KHI.

The flight on WED PK 788 was delayed due to technical difficulties. It was pretty confusing as the flight kept showing as "cancelled", "delayed to 2030" , and "please wait" on the screens between 1800 and 2000. The flight was scheduled to leave at 1700. Everyone was called to gate 35 and from there it was told that the flight was delayed. It finally left for Karachi the next day (Thursday) as PK788Y at 1700 from gate 14.
"Now we're going round in circles, tell me will this deja vu never end?"
