Cancelled flights were due to the PSO payment dispute. It is resolved now. It happens every month.

Unfortunately for the past few weeks, most sources have pointed to the Privatisation Committee having stopped all long term planning in the airline till January (including recruitment, which includes these 3 ads).
This meant that the cadets ad was put into cold storage.
When it comes to what you've heard however, this is PIA and Pakistan so stranger things have happened.

I haven’t heard they have barred from doing recruitments. For Captains AD applications are being processed.

Interesting.
However, what's taking them so long if true? They should've published these ads within a month of the ban being lifted to avoid these issues. But as always, everything done at a slow pace.
Barring recruitment is a useless endeavour that only leads to issues down the road. Even other long term planning such as aircraft leasing, even if privatisation is on the cards, make zero sense. First they say make no long term plans till privatisation, then you see a delegation going to purchase those planes parked abroad.

Privatisation Commission has nothing to do with PIA affairs. CEO is the decision maker.

Perhaps in a sane world. But unfortunately we all know how PIA and government interference works.

Anyone knows if PIA plans to hire cadet pilots? Or do the captains on the 777s continue to get contracts by “justifying a shortage” while at the same time the management says the airline doesn’t need new cadets?

I think you answered your own question perfectly. Everything cancelled and in limbo thanks to a failed privatisation endeavour.AP-BGY wrote: Sat Feb 01, 2025 4:17 pm Anyone knows if PIA plans to hire cadet pilots? Actually, this reminds me of a talk I had with a relative of mine who works at PIA recently. He told me that PIA is going to start hiring soon as they are facing a pilot shortage for 777 aircraft (due to older pilots retiring). Plus the fact that many aircraft are coming back to service. No idea about the timeframe though. I imagine they are going to move up current A320 pilots into the 777 and thus, hire for the A320.

That’s what PIA has been saying since 2016. The last time a cadet pilot add came was in 2016 for 25 pilots. Since then the reason for not hiring is “no demand” and “no shortage” but ironically, the retiring pilots on the 777 keep getting rehired on contract until 65 and they refuse to promote first officers from the ATR anymore as well. Because they don’t really have anyone in the pipeline. At the same time they don’t want to hire cadets directly on the Airbus 320 either. Everything but hire young fresh pilots. First it was the Supreme Court ban, then no demand, then privatisation now again no requirement apparently.

It was 2018 actually. Then thanks to the Supreme Court ban and Arshad Malik, everything was in limbo for over 5 years.
It’s always an excuse with PIA. One always heard about the ‘shortage’ but no one does anything about the shortage.

Re: PIA Seeks Supreme Court Permission to Hire 250 Employees Including Pilots
2018 I stand corrected. Whenever you ask the current management about the cadet pilot add, there is an excuse. But when it comes to securing contracts close to retirement, everyone gets it in the airline. The entire country works in a similar way. Retain retiring employees and claim there’s no need for young talent.
