ANF Sniffer Dog Shot and Killed on Karachi Airport Airside

According to news reports, a trained sniffer dog of Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) was shot and killed on Karachi Airport airside around 3:00 AM on August 17.

Cockpit crew of a foreign airline informed Karachi Airport Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower about the presence of animal in aircraft parking bays area. The dog was shot and killed by Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) bird shooters deployed at Karachi Airport. The gunfire was opened to prevent the dog from entering active taxiways and runway area.

The authorities were unable to lure dog before resorting to open gunfire. The dog's identity was unknown at the time of shooting.

The dog somehow had left its kennel and entered Karachi Airport airside.

Pakistan CAA and ANF is investigating the incident.

The presence of dog in aircraft parking bays area of Karachi Airport was reported by cockpit crew of Etihad Airways flight from Abu Dhabi on August 17.

On August 17, Etihad Airways Airbus A321 aircraft registration A6-AEI arrived in Karachi at 2:52 AM as flight EY221 from Abu Dhabi.

The dog was noticed near aircraft parking bay number 25 where Etihad Airways flight EY221 was parked.
