Emergency Escape Slides Used to Evacuate Passengers of Saudia Airbus A330 Flight at Peshawar Airport

According to news reports, left side main landing gear of Saudia Airbus A330-300 (aircraft registration HZ-AQ28) flight SV792 from Riyadh after landing at Peshawar Airport caught fire and passengers were evacuated through emergency escape slides. The aircraft was carrying 276 passengers and 21 crew members.

The aircraft also veered off paved surface/taxiway with its nose gear and right side main landing gear ending on soft ground/grass.





On July 11, Saudia Airbus A330-300 (aircraft registration HZ-AQ28) flight SV792 from Riyadh landed on Runway 35 at 10:25 AM and apparently veered off taxiway around 10:27 AM.

It appears that the aircraft veered off the taxiway into the grass, that's a bit unusual? I'd imagine if there was a fire that you would perform a full stop on the taxiway.

From video it seems the aircraft was moving slowly on taxiway when its hot/smoking left hand side main landing gear was sprayed with water/foam by Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) fire tenders.

According to Pakistan CAA, upon noting smoke and subsequent fire in the left side main landing gear, the Air Traffic Controller’s prompt communication to the pilot, who was unaware of the situation, ensured a timely response from the Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (RFFS). Fire fighting personnel arrived at the scene within minutes and expertly extinguished the blaze, averting further damage to the aircraft and ensuring the safety of all 276 passengers and 21 crew members.

Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, the illiteracy of Pakistanis evident from the following video. Apparently, luggage more important than sliding down safely without damanging the slide or hurting others while evacuating or doing it quickly.

Gulf Air has operated its Bahrain to Peshawar flight GF786 on Bahrain-Islamabad route due to closure of Peshawar Airport. Most likely arrangement made by the airline for the transportation of passengers from Islamabad Airport to Peshawar Airport by buses.

It seems as if the pilots shut off the engines as no exhaust could be seen, but forgot to apply parking brakes in the heat of the moment

Serene Air Airbus A330-200 (aircraft registration AP-BNG) flight ER852 from Jeddah landed at Peshawar Airport at 9:23 PM.

Serene Air Airbus A330 used the taxiway that was blocked by Saudia Airbus A330. It means Saudia Airbus A330 has been successfully removed/towed away from its incident site.

Good observation, considering the fact that MLG was on fire, they decided to evacuate from there. Perhaps maybe they were not aware of exact situation. It also says neither were pilots, until ATC saw and notified them.

glad all are safe but three observations

1. Luggage- as expected, people don't want to leave their stuff behind. Unfortunate that this culture is unlikely to change

2. Noticed also like other forum members that left hand slides were used. would be interesting to know if the crew were on ground radio with fire response team and advised crew.

3. man in white salwar kameez in video running in front of the fire tender. not a good idea to walk in front of fire tender capable of over 100Psi pressure especially when its in operation.
