PIA Country Manager in Bahrain Arrested

KARACHI, July 8 (APP): Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has declared the arrest of airline's country manager at Bahrain International Airport as an act of misunderstanding.

In a statement issued on July 8, PIA spokesperson said since PIA does not have an office at the airport, normally the luggage left by passengers is shifted to airline's city office from where it is delivered to passengers after contacting them.

Bahraini security officials initiated operation by considering the shifting of luggage from the airport as a fraudulent act, PIA spokesperson said and added that such incident may be a violation of the code but it was not a criminal act.

PIA has engaged Pakistan Embassy in Bahrain to provide legal assistance to airline's arrested officer.

PIA is in constant touch with the Pakistani Embassy and also providing all technical support to them. PIA administration has assigned senior officers to defend the case in the court of law in Bahrain.

Probably incident related to PIA Islamabad to Bahrain Airbus A320 flight PK187 operated on July 7.

On July 7, PIA Airbus A320 aircraft registration AP-BLY arrived in Bahrain at 10:55 PM as flight PK187 from Islamabad.

According to "Nai Baat" newspaper report, PIA Country Manager in Bahrain remains in the custody of Bahraini authorities. The PIA official was detained in Bahrain on July 8.

The legal team hired by PIA is trying to get airline's country manager released on bail. Court case hearing on July 31.
