Detail Report from Face book page "Aviation Insight"

High-speed abort....

Captain. Umair Ismail was in command of Pakistan International Airlines Airbus #a320. Registration number. (AP-BOM). Construction number. 5253, age of aircraft. 11 years (July 2012) on 27th day of June 2024.

The Aircraft was a scheduled commercial flight #pk233 from #Faisalabad (LYP) to #dubai (DXB) at 5:20 pm.

Aircraft carrying 152 souls on board, 145 passangers and 7 crew members along with 10000 KG of fuel ⛽ taxi to runway for takeoff with First Officer flying & Captain observing 5:20 pm.

Temperature at takeoff was🌡️40°C with high cross winds.

The Aircraft was cleared to take off from runway (03R) which is a concrete runway with length of 2842 m/9324 feet.

After takeoff clearnce, Aircraft started it's takeoff roll with V1 speed of 135 knts. When the Aircraft was crossing 125 knots, Cockpit crew observed bird flying low on the centerline of the runway and suddenly striked right engine (Engine# 2) of the Aircraft.

The Captain immediately called "STOP" and took control of the Aircraft, he then applied full reversals and full manaul braking as Auto Breaking and one break assembly of the Aircraft was not working and with more than 1000 feet of runway stops the Aircraft on runway.

Crew immediately after stopping the Aircraft shutdown the Engine with Bird strike and informed the #atc.

Due to heavy breaking two tyres of the Aircraft got flat but not damaged was done to the Aircraft neither any pasanger was injured.

Passengers were off loaded from the Aircraft and Aircraft was parked for inspection.

It was found by the Engineers that half of the Fan blads were broken due to the size of the bird and hight rotation of the engine fan (Engine 2) blads.

Cockpit crew took split second decision of this high speed abort, this is due to high tranning and professional work.

The Captain of this Aircraft is also an instructor in the Airline and a very senior pilot.

It is pertain to mention here that Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority #CAA airside management are not taking effective measures for bird avoidance.

They won't hire bird shooters to shoot down birds but would risk killing 200 people due to a catastrophe (God forbid). What a country !

Bird hits do happen all over the world, why to curse the country. Bird shooters are there on almost all airfields but are no guarantee for a birds free air space, they are just a deterrent.

Have you actually flown into other countries where birds exist near runways?

Try looking up online why these birds are there in the first place and what those airports do to curtail the bird problem. CAA has a lot to think over and redo. A bird or two falling down most definitely scares away the rest. Doesn't happen here as no ones bothered.

As a French captain once told me "The worse bird infestation is in Lahore and Goa". And he had flown all over the world.

No curses to the country. But if a person has been hired for a particular job and he is not doing his job, then yes curses all around.
