Allama lqbal International Airport - Lahore
A British citizen of Pakistan origin has lodged a formal complaint against an Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) immigration officer, alleging torture during a routine immigration check at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore.
The complaint, filed with the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), involves Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI Bilal), who has been suspended with immediate effect pending investigation. According to the complainant, who arrived in Lahore from Dubai, the incident at the immigration counter happened when ASI Bilal demanded an e-visa. As the complainant’s cell phone was dead, he requested Bilal to verify the visa using his passport number.
The situation took a violent turn when ASI Bilal allegedly punched the passenger in the face and ear, causing nosebleed. The victim, a British national, has demanded a swift action against the officer, prompting both the CAA and FIA to launch inquiries into the incident.
Director FIA, Lahore Sarfraz Virk wasted no time in suspending ASI Bilal. Pakistan CAA spokesperson promised necessary action if the misconduct was confirmed.
