Bird Hit Forces Quetta-bound PIA Airbus A320 Flight PK325 to Return to Islamabad

On March 31, bird hit forced PIA Airbus A320 aircraft registration AP-BLB flight PK325 to Quetta to return to Islamabad. The aircraft has been grounded for inspections/repairs.

PIA Airbus A320 (AP-BLB) departed from Islamabad Airport Runway 28L at 10:14 AM as flight PK325 to Quetta with 158 passengers and 6 crew members onboard. The aircraft landed safely on Islamabad Airport Runway 28R at 11:03 AM i.e. 49 minutes after takeoff. Maximum altitude attained by the aircraft 32,025 feet.

Cockpit crew informed Air Traffic Control (ATC) about abnormal engine performance and decided to return to Islamabad. Passengers aboard the aircraft also heard a loud bang and felt vibration, according to news reports. An engine of the aircraft suffered bird hit/ingestion, claim reports. PIA Airbus A320 aircraft registration AP-BLB is powered by two CFM56 engines.

Later, PIA Airbus A320 aircraft registration AP-BLZ as a substitute aircraft left Islamabad at 12:42 PM as flight PK325 to Quetta where it arrived at 1:55 PM.

On April 1, PIA Airbus A320 aircraft registration AP-BLB returned to service when it left Islamabad at 5:07 AM as flight PK167 to Al-Qassim with a delay of more than 5 hours.
