Today, PIA Boeing 777-300ER aircraft registration AP-BHV Medina to Islamabad flight PK714 landed in Muscat due to engine problem. The widebody twinjet experienced problem with left engine (engine number 1)

Boeing 777s in PIA fleet are powered by General Electric GE90 family engines.

The aircraft departed from Medina at 8:21 AM and landed in Muscat at 12:15 PM (local time) i.e. around 2 hours & 54 after takeoff. The aircraft is still on the ground at Muscat Airport.

PIA flight PK714 from Medina now expected to arrive in Islamabad at 9:05 AM on March 7. The flight was scheduled to arrive in Islamabad at 12:50 PM on March 6.

PIA Boeing 777-200ER aircraft registration AP-BGJ as flight PK8292 is transporting stranded passengers of PK714 from Muscat to Islamabad.

Earlier, AP-BGJ arrived in Muscat as ferry flight PK8225 from Karachi. Most likely it also carried PIA Engineering team with tools and spare parts to bring Boeing 777 registration AP-BHV grounded in Muscat back into service.

On March 6, PIA ATR 42-500 aircraft registration AP-BHI also performed Karachi to Muscat flight PK6225 on March 6. The aircraft left Karachi at 7:16 PM and arrived in Muscat at 8:48 PM. Karachi to Muscat flight completed in 2 hours & 32 minutes. The aircraft carried PIA Engineering team with tools and spare parts to repair Boeing 777 registration AP-BHV grounded in Muscat.

On March 7, AP-BHI left Muscat at 12:36 PM as flight PK6226 to Karachi with 40 stranded passengers of flight PK714. The ATR stayed in Muscat for about 16 hours.

According to PIA spokesperson, the stranded passengers of flight PK714 are being flown to Pakistan by two PIA aircraft.

PIA Boeing 777-200ER aircraft registration AP-BGJ as flight PK8292 is transporting more than 320 passengers from Muscat to Islamabad.

PIA ATR 42-500 aircraft registration AP-BHI as flight PK6226 is transporting 40 passengers from Muscat to Karachi.

30 passengers remaining at Muscat Airport to be transported by another flight.

An engine has been sent to Muscat for grounded PIA Boeing 777-300ER registration AP-BHV.

PIA spokesman said as per procedure it was the crew’s decision to land in Muscat instead of taking the risk of coming to Karachi.

Passengers were offered a hotel but they were not allowed to leave the airport by the immigration authorities
