EASA team to arrive in Karachi on 26th November
KARACHI: The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) team will arrive in Karachi on November 26 to conduct an audit of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), likely paving the way for the national flag carrier to begin flight operation for Britain and Europe, ARY News reported.
EASA will also conduct a remote safety audit of different departments of Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority CAA (PCAA).
The audit will determine the airworthiness of PIA, and whether it will regain access to European airspace.
A successful audit would allow PIA and other private airlines of the country to restart flights to the EU.

PIA should be more worried about UK DfT audit rather than EASA's (not saying it is not important). UK is the main market, EU needs smaller aircraft which PIA doesn't have.

European delegation to visit Pakistan next week
โWe can confirm that a joint mission of the European Commission and European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to Pakistan will take place next week,โ EASA spokesperson, Vera Tavares, told Arab News over email.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) official confirmed the on-site evaluation would be the visiting delegationโs crucial agenda item.
โAn on-site assessment of the safety measures of Civil Aviation Authority and PIA is on the agenda of four-member delegation,โ he said.

Re: EASA team to arrive in Karachi on 26th November
As much as we all are anticipating positive news, it is unlikely as one of the most significant demands by EASA was bifurcation CAA into two autonomous bodies.
The process is in limbo since months, really appalling how after the legislation being passed from assembly it hasnโt been implemented. Really puts into perspective how international pressure is used to protect ME3 interests as informed by ex MD PIA in the recent interview.

Re: EASA team to arrive in Karachi on 26th November
Due to delay in visible implementation of Pakistan CAA division into regulatory and airport operations bodies, resumption of Pakistan-registered aircraft commercial passenger and cargo flights to/from European Union (EU) member countries can take up to six more months i.e. around May 2024.

Implementation of "Pakistan Air Safety Investigation Bill - 2023" also known.
Apparently international aviation standards require separate and independent aviation regulatory, airport operations and aviation safety investigation bodies instead of all of them under Pakistan CAA creating conflict of interest.

Re: EASA team to arrive in Karachi on 26th November
For decades, this issue has posed no problems for the EASA or DfT who have been happy to allow the expansion of PIA destinations in Europe and UK, even after tumultuous periods such as after the Chitral crash. Suddenly this is the biggest issue to face aviation in history. It's difficult to imagine that this 'issue' is anything except an excuse to penalise Pakistan and/or is the result of some lobbying in EU/UK. No other way to construe it.Abbas Ali wrote: Mon Dec 11, 2023 3:12 pm Due to delay in visible implementation of Pakistan CAA division into regulatory and airport operations bodies, resumption of Pakistan-registered aircraft commercial passenger and cargo flights to/from European Union (EU) member countries can take up to six more months i.e. around May 2024.

Re: EASA team to arrive in Karachi on 26th November
why not Pakistan formally ask middle eastern airlines, turkish and India to operate from Pakistan and carry 'poor' Pakistani people directly to Europe, North America, Australia..these countries have jets close to 1000 ..it will be the greatest relieve for Pakistani passengers who first have to go 2000 km rougly to Middle east to catch their flight onwards.. just imagine the enormous amount of resources (time, money, fuel, logistics) wasted when everyday thousands of people from Pakistan make these indirect journey to Middle East just because Pakistan dont have planes or foreign airlines not willing to come to Pakistan!!
meanwhile PIA, Airblue, Serene air and policy makers figure how to boost Pakistan aviation sector!!
