Sukkur Airport to be Upgraded for Wide-body Aircraft and International Flights

Sukkur Airport will be given status of international airport to facilitate international travelers of the region.

Today, Aviation Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique at a press briefing held at Lahore Airport informed:

Sukkur Airport as an international airport has potential to serve large population of the region.

National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) has completed topographic survey and field investigation for Sukkur Airport expansion.

Sukkur Airport expansion project will be completed in 30 months.

Sukkur Airport expansion project feasibility report and project cost estimate report will be finalized by December 2022.

National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) Limited has invited bids from drilling contractors/companies for carrying out geotechnical investigations for Begum Nusrat Bhutto Airport - Sukkur expansion and renovation project.

Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) awards contract to National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) Limited for Begum Nusrat Bhutto Airport - Sukkur expansion and renovation project.



The expanded and upgraded Sukkur Airport will become an international airport capable of handling wide-body aircraft flights. The upgraded airport will also be available for cargo aircraft flights for exporting fruits and vegetables of the region.

Project works include:

Upgraded runway and taxiways
Upgraded apron
Terminal building expansion


9,000 feet long Sukkur Airport Runway 14/32.

What a waste of money, sukkur can already handle a320 / 737 yet no airline is interested in operating to Sukkur. How astonishing would it be that Sukkur of all airports can handle a380 but Karachi can't

Apparently LYP still can't take a330s even after the renovation, and it was only up to A310 standard. LYP has demand but most are forced to go LHE. And how are they doing Sukkur, where none fly's except PIA?

People of Pakistan have to pay for useless expenditures like these. Government increases taxation on the salaried class just to make the most useless projects ever. You already have nawabshah airport which is capable of handling 777 operations in case of diversions.
