Re: PIA to Start Non-stop Flights for New York Soon - Aviation Minister
The Real Problem is not the luggage, it is the route planning amd the system. I believe our neighbours Air India does the good job by connecting all major domestic feeds with Delhi and Mumbai after their US / EU arrivals to connect the passengers conveniently with A32s and 787s.
Right now the major issue on our hands is WHEN we will see the final Confirmation of ISB JFK ISB flights ?
Are we ready to handle this tough route? Do we have enough planes to manage the schedule efficiently?

in my opinion, PIA will not be able to compete with airlines operating on this route with stopover in middle east, a minimum 4 weekly they should have planned and later on daily JFK including Karachi and Lahore along with Islamabad once more aircraft are procured

Welcome to 1982
In 1982 PIA operated twice weekly DC-10 flights between Pakistan and New York.
Then of course there were 4 stops going in and 4 stops coming back.
I flew in 1982 New York-Paris-Frankfurt-Cairo-Dubai-Karachi. NIGHTMARE FLIGHT

Why not just do Toronto daily and transit to the US from there.
Twice a week into the US where millions of Pakistanis live and travel every year is criminal.
Its shameful how can they justify keeping a crew in New York for 3-4 nights and then say we are losing money on the route.
At least start with 4 weekly flights two from Lahore and two from Islamabad. Karachi can connect with an early morning A320 flight out to Lahore.

You need Canada transit Visa if you are not US resident so most people on temporary visas like I have (B1/B2) will not be able to travel to US VIA Canada with PIA

PIA would start operating direct flights to the United States after receiving security clearance. A team from the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) team is arriving in Islamabad within the next fewdays with a business plan, Minister for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan said on Tuesday.
'Direct flights to the US will start if the US TSA team gives security clearance,' he said.

Do you have any passenger/ arrival departure data for JFK to back your claim why four flights are needed from Lahore and no flight from Karachi?Amaad Lone wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 6:56 pm At least start with 4 weekly flights two from Lahore and two from Islamabad. In this particular case passenger from Karachi in general will never opt to Fly A320 feeder service to LHE and then to JFK.
They could fly same two hour flight but to dxb on ME3 and onwards with better product/ service reliability and frequency and in same prices.
That's why PIA lost terribly to ME3 carriers at Karachi.

Also seems like due corona virus issue, Airline industry is feeling the impact.
For now there is no point to start flights to North America.

US team visits Islamabad International Airport to give clearance to PIA direct flights
* PIA has prepared a flight plan according to which initially three flights a week will be operated to New York but the number will be increased later.

RAWALPINDI: A United States (US) Transport Security Administration (TSA) team on Monday visited Islamabad International Airport (IIA) to conduct final inspection and give clearance to Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to start direct flights to the US.
According to sources, the team will also visit Jinnah International Airport Karachi and Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore.
The US team is expected to hold a meeting with Aviation Secretary Nasir Hussain Jamy on Tuesday to discuss issues related to aviation and security.
For the first time, PIA is likely to start direct flights to the United States from May this year, subject to final clearance by the TSA.
The US team will submit its final report after the security audit of the three airports.
Negotiations between the US administration and PIA continued for the last two years. PIA has taken all measures asked for by the US authorities, including using screening machines at the three major airports.
A delegation from the US transport authority earlier visited Pakistan before the arrival of the final security audit team.
The PIA has prepared a flight plan according to which initially three flights a week will be operated to New York but the number will be increased later.
Owing to security concerns, the US had not allowed any direct flight that originated from a Pakistani airport into its airspace. It will be for the first time that PIA will start its direct flights to the US from Pakistan.
In October 2017, the PIA discontinued its flights to the US because of rising operational cost and in a bid to cut losses it had been facing
