1:32 PIA 747-200 & 1:50 PIA 707 made in Pakistan.

An experiment which has proven to be quite a success but which I will not repeat. To date I have made 3 of these 1:32 scale 747's from scratch (2 747-200's and 1 747-300) while the 1:50 scale 707 is actually an original Skyland Models blank/all white 707 I purchased while in the UK and had repainted here locally into the PIA 80's livery for a friend of mine. I picked up 2 of these 1:50 707's and the other model will be my own in the PIA 60's livery. Completion time for the 747 was 6 months and the 707 was 3 months. The 747 is 7.5 feet long while the 707 is 3.5 feet long.

Here are some pics of the SV 747-300 I had made for a local travel agency. I redesigned the -200 upper deck and stretched it to change it into a -300. As the mold originally had PW JT9D engines, we left them as they were as Saudia did operate a few leased 747-300's with PW engines i.e. TF-ARS.

I now plan to make only one more of these big 747's for myself after which no more will be made, but it was a brilliant experiment.

Thanks. Alot of work and time went into creating these models and proof that even in Pakistan you can make as good models as anywhere else if you have the right materials, resources (although quite limited) and people to work with.

Amazingly impressive!

I just bagged a 1/100 Entex 747-100 and am so inclined to make it AP-AYV/W. The only problem being that I will have to drill 7 extra windows per side on the upper deck, and a mistake will be the death of me

Entex?? That's the Doyusha kit isn't it?? If ever you feel you don't want to do anything with it, I'll gladly take it off your hands!!

Yup, that is the Doyusha kit. It is alluringly accurate, complete with rivets around the APU, and a separate APU exhaust insert. The kit also comes with the "lounge style" seating arrangement for the upper deck.

I've been meaning to get one of those but I don't like the landing gear setup on it. I'd display it without gears and would need to find someone to build it for me.

Fill me in on the landing gear setup. Do you not like it because it is soo complex in assembly or because it is too light for such a massive aircraft? I've mulled having it displayed in the retraction mode, with the gear doors partially open.

No either have it displayed gears up or gears down. Someone sent me a link where someone built this model and the pics show the progress stage by stage, let me find it and I'll forward it to you via FB.

Congratulations Moin, just marvelous workmanship performed on these giant models. Both PIA's B742 and SV B743 looks marvelous!. Now these models are testimonial that if right mind set and materials could be available in Pakistan, supreme examples like these could be made. =D>

Soon i'll be posting pictures of my S Connie, it's gone to another level with functional trim tabs and boost tabs on rudders, elevators and ailerons. Presently i'm making fully composite flaps for it!. Landing gears are fully custom made for my model.
Hopefully i will do it's maiden during coming summer at some point of time. Model will be covered in aluminum foil first and then painted, just like how real birds are built and painted.

Thanks for the kind comments. Yes this is proof that given the right resources and materials, you can make models almost as good as Pacmin or Westway etc but unfortunately, the above are only available in limited numbers and making models for other people i.e. customers is not that easy as well, unless they live in Pakistan because transporting these models abroad can be a problem due to their size. I had a few queries from abroad about making these models but turned them down. One more 747 will be made for myself and that will be it.

At this size, I wonder how easy it would be to have these constructed as cut away models with the interior cabin visible. Moin, does the person you're working with have the capability of making cut aways?

If I ask him if he can make a 1:1 747 and he'll say yes but I'm not going beyond what I have made here. To create a cutaway model, I would need an original cutaway so it can be recreated/replicated as accurately as possible and it will take 12 months to complete, maybe even more.

I have my eye on a 1:50 scale Kuwait Airways cutaway 747 model that someone has which has been to hell and back i.e. 2 engines missing, the remaining 2 glued on, fuselage dropped 2-3 times and held together with duct tape, the model is in terrible condition but I can fix it and I offered to buy it off them several times for a fair price based on its condition but they're determined to hold onto it for dear life as if its the only model remaining in the world, so good luck to them.

Not in KHI anymore so I can't check for myself, but didn't there used to be a TWA cutaway 747 in a travel agency in what used to be Hotel Metropole? (I know, I'm *so* showing my age...)
