AP-BGZ incident at MAN

Post by SENIOR »

WED 11OCT06 PK721 LHE-KHI-MAN-JFK 0950/1150 AP-BGZ B772LR arrived around 30mins late at MAN. During a heavy landing one of the duct panels on the undercarriage sheared off and was completly destroyed and found in three pieces on the runway.
Engineers were unable to source the part locally in the UK so BGZ declared night-stop and all pax around 70-80 were sent to the hotel.
The same part from BGY was sent on PK701 ISB-MAN today THU which also operates B772-ER however inorder to save time the aircrafts were swapped.
PK721 departed 28hrs late at 1548LT THU 12OCT.
A new part was ordered from Seattle and same will be put on PK702 MAN-ISB if BGZ departs as I've just been told it's returned back to stand after pushing back initially with STD 1530LT

BGZ finally departed as PK702 MAN-ISB just before 1900LT nearly 0330hours late !!

Just as well I'm not at work today !!

Try to get some pictures SENIOR when you get back to work if the aircraft remains in the same condition by that time.

And thanks for the information about the incident, I wonder why did the hard landing take place there at MAN?

Here are photos & info related to the incident sent by forum member SENIOR.
Image
The picture shows AP-BGY (Boeing 777-240LR) with a temporary panel taped on. AP-BGY's duct panel was used to replace AP-BGZ's panel which was destroyed at Manchester Airport.

This is picture of AP-BGK (Boeing 777-240ER) which also seems to have the same panel taped up.

Thank you SENIOR for sharing photos and information.
