PIA Privatization Options
PIA should not be sold to an Emirati airline, which will reduce it to a feeder airline for its long haul flights.
Instead it should be sold to someone like Richard Branson, the owner of Virgin Atlantic.
A man which can take PIA to heights it deserves, and turn PIA into an efficent commerical airline, capable of competing with any of the Gulf airlines.
A man with a vision.

Is Richard Branson willing to buy PIA He doesn’t even have Virgin serving any Pakistani city.
I would love that just to see that 400 plus employee/plane ratio drop down to match that of Virgin. With this ban, that ratio must have gone up. Any know knows what is going on with all the A310 and 747. Are all still flying somewhere?
PIA should be privatized, but the current owner (GOP) will not do it and we know why.

Just sell it to Zardari, who was definitely interested at one point...This way maybe Mushie can also kill two birds with stone and get relected for a second term...Max wrote:Is Richard Branson willing to buy PIA He doesn’t even have Virgin serving any Pakistani city.

Laptops of key PIA officials stolen in Brussels
By Baqir Sajjad Syed
ISLAMABAD, March 8: Laptops of key Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) officials were stolen during their stay in Brussels for talks with the European Union on restrictions imposed on the airline’s fleet.
The mysterious theft has left the airline’s management wondering about the motives behind the incident.
PIA Chairman Tariq Kirmani, speaking at a media conference, accepted that his laptop and those of some of his management colleagues were stolen from the hotel where they were staying.
Mr Kirmani’s laptop was stolen from his room, while his colleagues lost their’s at the time of check-in.
The thieves also stole one of the files that the PIA chief had taken along with him to Brussels and even tore up his briefcase probably in search of certain documents. A report of the incident has been lodged with the Brussels police.
Probably someone might be interested in knowing about PIA’s business strategy, a guessing Kirmani said, adding that he was pretty sure that the thieves were well informed about him and his movements.
Interestingly, the incident has taken place in the same hotel where Mr Kirmani along with one of the country’s top leaders is believed to have given a briefing to a prospective buyer of the airline a few weeks earlier.
PIA management denies that privatization of the airline is on cards.
A senior official, however, said certain other investment issues were discussed at that meeting.

What are all you talking about - see:

Philanthropy
Main article: Aga Khan IV#Philanthropy
The Aga Khan, heir to the family fortune and a society figure, is founder and chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), one of the largest private development networks in the world. In Afghanistan, the AKDN has mobilised over $400 million in development projects, a large portion of which has come from the Network's own resources.[8] AKDN continues to work with a variety of African and Asian countries to improve living conditions and promote education. The Aga Khan has been awarded the ownership of Habib Bank Limited along with the authorization to form Boards Of Control for Secondary Education by the Government of Pakistan in 2005-2006. The handing over of Pakistani Flag Carrier Pakistan International Airlines is on the cards in the current year 2007.

The Ismaili / Agha Khani community of Pakistan has usually done well financially (Hashwani Group), and are considered as good managers.
I am sure if the Agha Khan is involved in the privatization of PIA, it would be good for the airline.
Its about time PIA is run as a business and not as section of the Ministry of Defence.
A private PIA will remain the national flag carrier, a Pakistani airline. Nobody knows the owners of Delta Airlines, United or American Airlines, but we all know they are American carriers.
A prosperous private PIA should make every Pakistani proud, and not resent the fact that the ownership is not with the "people of Pakistan".

The source of this information is not credible, and is as confirmed as the gossip in Pakistani newspapers, and honestly was not worth mentioning. What are all you talking about - see:
