National Assembly body to discuss EU restrictions on PIA
Committee will also discuss the replacement of national flag insignias from aircraft tails.
ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Standing Committee on Defence Chairman Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has called a meeting of the body on March 9 to discuss European restrictions on Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
The meeting was convened after several requests by members of the committee from the opposition. Daily Times learnt that the government had been reluctant to convene the meeting.
Although the opposition wanted to discuss five issues, only one of the issues it proposed has been included in the agenda of the meeting, to be held at Parliament House. According to the agenda, the committee will discuss EU restrictions on PIA and the impact of a recently proposed US legislation on Pakistan’s defence capabilities and needs. The committee will also discuss the replacement of national flag insignias from aircraft tails and PIA’s decision to allow new travel agencies to operate in the UK.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Muhammad Pervez Malik wrote a letter to the deputy secretary of the National Assembly, and then talked to Sardar Nasrullah Khan Dareshek, the chief whip of the government, to urge them to convene a meeting of the committee.
The issues that were raised by Mailk in the letter were related to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and PIA. He also had also sought an inquiry report on the Multan Fokker crash.

Big question for all is: Did PIA submit for acceptance/approval a corrective maintenance plan for all its aircraft operating to EU, in this last visit to EC by PIA & CAA? It has been EC's requirement to PIA since 2006. German Ambassador to ISB is quoted by the press to say that, PIA has ignored repeatedly requirements for acceptable corrective plan i.e. in order to qualify the desired aircraft to EU.

So what happens to the odious debts? Appears the whole charade of recent years has been to first strip the assets, make it all very unattractive and then rob the worthy parts of the national strategic asset for some stranger. Why this historical envy & deceit for the silenced owners & your own kind? Some people do have contempt for mankind & their own kind & family - Are you folks them? Why be accomplices to something you haven't bothered to understand & learn but are more than eager to lend yourself to Treason. Haven't known a people so proud of breeding, protecting & supporting declared criminals of any type.

Laptops of key PIA officials stolen in Brussels
By Baqir Sajjad Syed
ISLAMABAD, March 8: Laptops of key Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) officials were stolen during their stay in Brussels for talks with the European Union on restrictions imposed on the airline’s fleet.
The mysterious theft has left the airline’s management wondering about the motives behind the incident.
PIA Chairman Tariq Kirmani, speaking at a media conference, accepted that his laptop and those of some of his management colleagues were stolen from the hotel where they were staying.
Mr Kirmani’s laptop was stolen from his room, while his colleagues lost their’s at the time of check-in.
The thieves also stole one of the files that the PIA chief had taken along with him to Brussels and even tore up his briefcase probably in search of certain documents. A report of the incident has been lodged with the Brussels police.
Probably someone might be interested in knowing about PIA’s business strategy, a guessing Kirmani said, adding that he was pretty sure that the thieves were well informed about him and his movements.
Interestingly, the incident has taken place in the same hotel where Mr Kirmani along with one of the country’s top leaders is believed to have given a briefing to a prospective buyer of the airline a few weeks earlier.
PIA management denies that privatization of the airline is on cards.
A senior official, however, said certain other investment issues were discussed at that meeting.
