Some thing in the air!!!

Post by PALPA »

I just went to a senior captains house on a dinner lot of other senior crew were present what came to me as a great amazement is that the PIA is planning to place 4 Boeing 747-400ER on order most probably by next month!!! and the most stupid thing which is now going to be a major rift among the pilots would be the decision regarding which crew would fly that aircraft..........but as a matter of fact the management has decided to reinduct all the retired B747 captains on contract and they are going to fly these big birds.

A little birdie told me that PIA is taking a hard look at the 747-8i, the 747-400ER news, if true would be a short term lease arrangement, till the Eights are delivered.

this is good to hear this. But need to see it to believe it as PIA have been considering lost of other aircrafts before and never got them.

Yes 747-400ER on short term lease is a good idea and then get 747-800i

PIA need B747-800's to replace the classic 747's they have. i dont think the B777-300ER will do that job but is a good aircraft. Capacity is the key for PIA

I have always held a high regard for the PIA pilots regarding their insight and rational comments on PIA affairs. Suggesting the type of equipment PIA should buy is now all humbug. With the CREDITORS breathing down PIA's neck the fun gala is about to be wrapped up. PALPA! How could you be so naive? And the forum... less said the better.

I agree..add to the fact the B747-400ER isn't available for sale anyway...only the B747-8I is...the only way to get the B747-400ER is as mentioned, via a lease, and there aren't too many of them..maybe when QF gets some of their A380's PK could pick up a few from them...

I would prefer to see PK get B787-8's to expand to other routes such as LAX, etc.....but hey, if PK get the B748-I, I wouldn't be complaining either... :D

Whats the difference between the B773ER and B744ER, I though the B777s were B747 all variant replacement? I hope they order B748s!

The B744ER is the "extended range" of the B747-400...the baseline models are the same, but...

Compared to the B747-400, the 747-400ER..

- has an auxiliary fuel tank (and a second optional auxiliary tank) .
- strengthened fuselage, landing gear, and parts of its wing, along with new, larger tires.
-other than that, they are virtually identical...same parts, pilot pool, etc.

The B773ER is the larger variant of the B777 series....larger engines, higher MTOW, more pax and range, etc...

...the B773 and B747 are in different classes, unless the carrier is EK (or domestic NH/JL)....

PIA is getting 777-300ERs, a 393 seater aircraft that consumes a good 30% less fuel then the 420 seater 747-400.

Plus PIA has announced a plan to increase the 777 fleet to 12 aircraft by 2008, probably replacing the oldest 747-300s by then.

Where does everyone keep getting the idea that an obsolete aircraft like the 747-400 should find place the current PIA fleet.

What will be the RPK and ASK If PIA operates the planes acquired under credit? And by the way B777 has not added any 'surkhaab ka pur' to PIA's fleet.

If you ask me, once again, crew gossip. The most unreliable source of information.

Moin ur most probably right, every few month we get some new or rather same info that PIA is going to aquire the B744, yet nothing materialises. Maybe, some of the crew havnt heard the latest rumours so they keep running the old ones..
