Government to assist PIA in improving service: PM

ISLAMABAD, Apr 18 (APP): The Prime Minister has assured that government will continue to assist PIA improve its performance in view of the several initiatives taken by its management including the induction of new aircraft, introduction of new routes and improving its yield and load factors.

The Prime Minister was chairing a meeting at the Prime Minister's House Tuesday to review the performance of PIA, a press release said.

The Prime Minister said that PIA is faced with many challenges specially the precipitous rise in oil prices. To offset this unforeseen increase, PIA needs to focus on capacity utilization, better financial management and outsourcing of specialized functions, the Prime Minister added.

The Prime Minister complimented PIA on generating higher revenues last year and asked the Chairman PIA to induct more professionals, provide high quality customer services and adopt innovative practices using state-of-the-art technologies to make PIA a global airline-of-choice.

Chairman PIA, Tariq Kirmani apprised the Prime Minister of the various steps taken by PIA to improve the customer services, flight punctuality, maximum utilization of fleet and introduction of cost-effective measures all across the Airline.

He pointed out that while fuel prices remained the biggest challenge for the aviation industry in 2005, the multi-dimensional management initiatives taken by PIA resulted in improved performance indicators of the Airline including seat factor, yield, passenger traffic, market share, aircraft utilization, service standards and share value.

The Prime Minister said PIA should adopt the best practices prevalent in other airlines and benchmark its performance against its global competitors.

The meeting was attended, among others, by Rao Sikandar Iqbal, Senior Minister for Defence, Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr. Salman Shah, Zahid Hamid MOS for Defence and senior officials.

Pak Government should assist itself in running the government affairs. Leave the assisting of business improvements to businessmen. :roll:

PM must be joking ! They are the ones responsible for the continous decline and all the woes. They want a better service product let it be run by professionals and not by the usual sycophants and opportunist plunderers.
