BAKU: A number of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) flights from Baku have been canceled in the wake of the recent price hike on fuel. The senior body regulating prices, the Tariff Council, on January 5 doubled the retail prices on diesel, kerosene and fuel oil.
Shortly after the recently announced cancellation of the Baku-Kabul flight, the Azerbaijani Airlines plan to shut down air links to Delhi, India, Karachi, Pakistan, and Halab, Syria, from February 12. A source from AZAL national flag carrier has confirmed the plans. The cancellation of the said flights is linked to the surging fuel prices in the world market, which has effectively made the flights unprofitable.
AZAL has also reduced the number of the Baku-London flights from three to two flights a week.
