Post by Abbas Ali »

I got following info from my friend Alexandre Avrane - ATDB

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will lease one brand new Boeing 777-200ER from International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of American International Group, Inc. The aircraft will be powered by GE90-94B engines and is scheduled for delivery to PIA in January 2007. The lease term is for ten years.

Additional Remarks: Brand New Boeing 777-240ER (c/n 35296, l/n 613) leased from International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC) delivered to PIA on March 09, 2007. The aircraft is registered as AP-BHX.

a B 772ER can easily do KHI-PVG-LAX...most importantly LAX-PVG-LAX nonstop...so lets see...but very interesting development I must say and one that is looked forward to in hope of sensible decision making concerning future International expansion.

How come the delivery is so far into the future? Couldn't PIA utilize this aircraft any sooner? or is it just due to supply/demand of B772 or production time?

Either way this will be a welcome addition to the 3 current workhorses!

what do you mean due for section 41?

I thought that was something done in the mid-1980s after a crash of a Japan Airlines 747.

The current 747-300 fleet should have the modified section 41.

I would think so too. Otherwise the B747-300 purchase was another blunder.

theres no concrere confirmation on the induction of an added 777 next year, and theres no way a 300 seater can replace a 433 seater in any interpretation of viability....its just a false buzz created as part of the lingering 777 hype....the combis are due for a d check after hajj to stretch their operational life up too mid 08 before the last batch of 773s replace them. the 743 purchase was by no means a blunder but the best thing ahmed saeed ever had done...the accumilated lease rental over 4 years had run beyond 250 million dollars where as the actual purchase price of these aircraft came to 66 million, only a fraction of what pia was paying cathay for aircraft which it did not even own, in addition to an extra 743 in the fleet.
the 250 million figure includes a variety of configuration changes and ground crew training, coming to about 50 million dollar a piece. leasing them was a blunder not the purchase it self

Can someone tell me why leasing this aircraft is better than buying it?

Faiza:

Can you name one airline that has replaced a 747-200 or 747-300 with a 747-400 after 777-200ER's and 777-300ER's arrived?

All typical 747 customers are now ordering 777 because of economic concerns and they cannot fill those 400 seats every flight.
