PIA is considering buying six Boeing 777-200LRs!
"As the plane flew over Las Vegas, Tariq Kirmani, the chairman of Pakistan International Airlines - which like EVA has ordered two 777-200LRs - called the plane to say PIA was considering an increase in its order, to six planes."
The article also confirms that Asif Raza did land the plane.

wat is the % of our nation's people who will be travelling on these expensive birds. Probably this is the second time in our history after 47 that we have to start from scratch again after the quake. We need $ to rebuild our infrastructure and dnt forget that those were not 70,000 people who died ... those were 70,000 families.......
or may be its that we are so much occupied with justifying our rulers non sense which we will know only when they will leave.... that we dnt even care abt those poor ppl....
only time will tell

What in the world is the earthquake related to PIA? PIA is an airline which runs a business. Offering nonstop flights from north america to pakistan is not only a time saver but also will attract premium prices (just look at SIA's SIN-LAX/NYC premium prices). PIA will also save fuel, landing fees at MAN etc. etc.
Non-Stop flights is also a good way to compete with gulf carriers.

During the September monthly board meeting PIA chairman outlined a fleet plan uptill 2010, which increases the 777 fleet to 12.
Maybe the four extra 777s needed to increase the total to 12 will be the 777-240LRs.
The plan also calls for ordering three "new generation" twin engine long haul aircraft, my guess is the 787, and seven short/medium haul aircraft, probably the 737-700.
Six LRs will be super to convert the entire North American network to non-stop flights.
PIA fleet 2010
777-340ERs (3)
777-240LRs (6)
777-240ERs (3)
787 (3)
A310-300 (12)
737-700 (7)
ATR42-500 (7)
Eventually the A310 fleet will be replaced by the 787, giving PIA an all Boeing fleet, reduced to three types of fuel efficient aircraft.

I agree. if only 2 are purchased than there will be no room for expanding. So more would make more sense to buy, and flying non stop would be a good way of competing with Gulf carriers, and it would definately attract more premium customers and cut fuel consumption down.B777240ER wrote:I hope PIA will buy more.
For its North America ops, 2 B772LR are not enough. There is not even room for expansion.

I have been in KHI for 3 days now and have visited many ppl in the travel agencies and airlines in KHI and not 1 person said good things of PIAs current CEO-Chairman Mr Tariq Kirmani. They think that hes too over the roof with his flamboyant spending on elevators and carpets and the martial law type system that he has imposed at the PIA head office.
now getting back to the original topic. 6 B 772LRs is too much when 4 are needed max.
a) 1 can handle 4 weekly PAK-JFK-PAK nonstops
b) 1 can handle 2 weekly ORD + 2 weekly IAH nonstops
c) 1 can handle 3 weekly YYZ nonstops
d) 1 can handle 3 weekly LAX via PVG or nonstops
thus far PKs 6 B 743s are being replaced by 3 B 773ERs which is not on as its too little capacity replacement as PIA need the high density B 773ER for routes to Saudia and UK especially + JFK in the peak season.
PIAs order shouldnt be for 4 more B 772LRs but 2 more B 772LRs + 4 B 773ERs.

true..tariq kirmani really is'nt in the pilot community's good books..
I disagree..PIA is'nt really looking towards restricting itself to one kind of Aircraft manufacturer yet..
With the order of the ATR's confirmed and that of the A330's too..its still quite diverse..but FINALLY PIA is modernising its fleet..thank god!

ATR turbo props are perfect for short hop flights. they consume less fuel than jets and you cannot use jets on mini airports like moenjodaro, pasni etc. and one more thing: boeing doesn't produce turbo props
