Ethiopian Airlines Starting Four Weekly Flights Between Addis Ababa and Karachi From May 8

Would be good to have direct connections to Africa. Probably over a decade since PIA ceased Kenya and probably longer since Kenya Airways withdrew. Ethiopian and Egypt likely closer to two decades (Can someone confirm?). Pakistan gov't has been focussed on growing trade with African countries, east Africa has excellent tourism and Ethiopian has a good African, European and North American network. Hopefully this service could be successful. Fingers crossed it becomes reality.

اکستان سول ایوی ایشن اتھارٹی نے 18 برس بعد ایتھوپین ایئر لائن کو کراچی سےعدیس ابابا کیلئے پروازیں شروع کرنے کی اجازت دیتے ہوئے تنبیہ جاری کی ہے کہ ایئرپورٹ پر جانے والے مسافروں پر سخت نظر رکھی جائے۔ ڈپٹی ایئرپورٹ منیجر محمد بلال کے دستخط سے جاری کردہ مراسلے میں تحریر کیا گیا ہے کے پاکستان سول ایوی ایشن اتھارٹی نے 2004 سے معطل روٹ کراچی عدیس ابابا پر ایتھوپین ائیر لائن کو ہفتہ وار 2 پروازیں آپریٹ کرنے کی اجازت دی ہے۔ اس حوالے سے ایتھوپیا کی حکومت نے پاکستانی شہریوں کے لیے آن ارائیول ویزہ کی سہولت دینے کا بھی فیصلہ کیا ہے جو دو برس قبل معطل کر دیا گیا تھا جس کی وجہ پاکستانی مسافروں کی جانب سے ایتھوپیا جعلی پرفیوم اور موبائل لے جا کر فروخت کرنا تھا۔ اس حوالے سے کئی پاکستانی گرفتار اور پھر بے دخل کیے گئے۔ ایتھوپیا میں تعنیات پاکستانی سفیر نے ہدایت دی ہے کہ تمام پاکستانی مسافر جو ایتھوپیا سفر کر رہے ہوں ان پر کڑی نظر رکھی جائے اور سخت جانچ پڑتال کی جائے۔

Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has allowed Ethiopian Airlines to operate two weekly flights between Addis Ababa and Karachi.

Ethiopia has also restored Visa on Arrival facility for Pakistan passport holders.



Ethiopian Airlines had closed down its office in Karachi in year 2004.

By the way, flights are starting from KHI but agencies have to be vigilant at IIAP? A typo?

Abbas bhai, do you know what their previous frequency was? Appreciate it was probably 20years ago.

Also can anyone provide passenger numbers between Pakistan and South Africa and Kenya? Not sure if there are still sizeable communities there for onward traffic in Africa or if most have migrated to Europe or back to the sub-continent.

As far as i remember 2 Weekly KHI -ADD via Stop in DXB with 5th freedom.
I did on a ID90 ticket on stand-by basis. Flight was almost empty! While EK had no seats at all on thier 2-3 Daily flights on that time.

Btw KQ, MS and LX did also KHI-DXB on their Way to thier respectivly HUBS

Without the stop in DXB and some good marketing, I’m sure they can make this route a success. Ethiopian have a pretty solid network for onward connections

PIA and Ethiopian Airlines agreed for codesharing which would directly connect Karachi with Addis Ababa, informed Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pakistan spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch in a weekly briefing held in Islamabad today.

Ethiopia also has opened its resident embassy in Islamabad, she said.

Ethiopian Airlines starting flights between Karachi and Addis Ababa from March 26. Ethiopian Airlines will offer connecting flights to over 130 passenger and cargo destinations via its hub Addis Ababa.

Ethiopian Airlines service will also connect Pakistan with Africa.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Pakistan Jemal Beker Abdula on Saturday said arrival of the Ethiopian Airlines in Pakistan would give a major boost to the relations between Pakistan and Africa by bolstering contacts among their people.

“Ethiopian Airlines is starting its operation from Karachi by next month,” the ambassador said.

“Our embassy is inching closer to achieve its first target of bringing the Ethiopian Airlines in Pakistan,” said the ambassador who added that a trade agreement had already been signed between Pakistan and Ethiopia to formalize the trade between the two countries.

Is this still happening starting next month? I don't see any nonstop KHI to ADD flights for sale online

It might not be happening as their other new destinations that will be launched during end of March/April and May, such as Atlanta, Singapore, Copenhagen, and Kuala Lumpur are all being shown on their website.
