Lahore to Doha Qatar Airways Boeing 777 Flight Lands in Karachi Due to Engine Problem

Today, Qatar Airways Boeing 777-300ER aircraft registration A7-BEA performing Lahore to Doha flight QR629 landed safely at Karachi Airport due to engine number 2 (right engine) failure. The aircraft is powered by two General Electric GE90 engines. Around 200 people were aboard the aircraft.


Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) fire tender visible near the runway.

The Boeing 777 departed from Lahore at 9:43 AM and landed safely on Karachi Airport Runway 25L at 12:09 PM. It re-entered Pakistani airspace from Iranian airspace for landing in Karachi. The aircraft was flying at an altitude of 38,000 feet when it began descending and reentered Pakistani airspace from Iranian airspace.

According to a news channel the Boeing 777 landed in Karachi with shut down engine number 2 (right engine). The aircraft engine is undergoing inspections at Karachi Airport.

I found it surprising that Pak CAA suddenly woke up and decided to investigate this issue (rightly so as any regulator would) however with multiple disasters and incidents worse than this on Pakistani soil, these cowboys are nowhere to be found.

Pakistan CAA actually has higher effective implementation score for "Aircraft Investigation" category compared to global average in International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme (USOAP).

After landing, the pilot requested for the inspection of engine number 2 (right engine) by Pakistan CAA firefighters. After completion of engine inspection with no evidence of oil spillage found by firefighters, the aircraft vacated runway and taxied towards the allocated parking stand.
