Former Aviation Minister tweeted that 2 grounded 777s will undergo repairs. 16 billion PKR to be spent on 4 aircrafts.

The aging 777s will be phased out soon, leading to PIA's dependency solely on A320s and its associated routes. As far as I recall most of them were inducted post 9/11 in Musharraf's era. Age's catching up.

Instagram pilots of PIA will have nothing to show off anymore.

Agreed that PIA needs new wide bodies but only after UK / EU is restored. As for the 777s, not all will be phased out soon, the 300ERs can serve upto 7-9 years easily if maintained well. The real question is how many wide bodies/ 777s PIA actually needs?

For YYZ: 2 LRs are enough, PIA should increase it to 6x weekly making it 2x KHI-LHE-ISB each.

For UK: 20-24 flights need 3-4 777s, this is where I think PIA should fly it's younger 300ERs with refurbished cabin.

For EU: Ideally, PIA shouldn't fly into EU and continue with TK but I don't see TK being interested in working with PIA.
Maybe PIA can work with Pegasus. Anyways, Whether it's Turkey or flying into EU, I don't see PIA operating more than 10 flights, 2 a321neos should be enough for this segment.

For ME: Keep things as it is, older 777s ( BGK, BGJ, BMH and BMG) can keep flying to JED / MED / DXB etc..

For Malaysia and other East Asian routes: Again, the a321neo is good enough.

The a320s can keep flyig domestic and ME.

US: We never know when PIA will fly to US.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, SURVIVAL OF PIA IS IMPORTANT!

On September 22, PIA Boeing 777-300ER aircraft registration AP-BMS returned to service when it left Karachi at 5:27 PM as flight PK308 to Islamabad. AP-BMS had become inactive at the start of August 2023.
