Eitherways, this aircraft must have a lot of cycles left in it that even MAS took the challenge to bring in the aircraft for maintenance , overhaul etc.
I have to commend anyway that PIA Engineering must have done an awesome of keeping this aircraft in good shape that even Evergreen did not courage to shred this aircraft.

Re: Ex PIA 747 will fly for Baltia Air Lines
Meekal, AP-AYW belly landing incident was investigated by three-man team led by Air Commodore (Retd.) Patrick. D. Callaghan. Air Commodore Callaghan was the finest air accident investigator that Pakistan ever had, according to Capt. Johnny Sadiq.
The other two members of the investigation team were:
* CAA Chief Flight Inspector and highly experienced former PIA pilot Capt. Shaukat H. Khan. Capt. Shaukat H. Khan by that time had retired from PIA and had joined CAA as Chief Flight Inspector. Here I would also like to add that AP-AYW on its first flight to Pakistan in 1976 was flown by Capt. Shaukat with Capt. Khusro as his co-pilot.
* Capt. Johnny Sadiq in his capacity as PIA Chief Pilot Corporate Safety was the third member of this team.
Cockpit Voice Recording (CVR) was also used as evidence in investigation process.
To keep your interest alive in the book, I'll not reveal further details of the investigation described in the book.

Re: Ex PIA 747 will fly for Baltia Air Lines
Abbas, thanks as usual for all this information.
There was a CVR? That means Capt. Siraj had the presence of mind to ask the FE to pull the CB. Otherwise the CVR is erased on engine shut-down.
They did not do that in that (in)famous flight carrying Mush back from Sri Lanka. That was a huge blunder/over-sight. Or maybe it was deliberate.
Did that captain think he had just conducted a routine flight? According to "Hijacking from the Ground" the captain just calmly went home. The author did state the ATC tapes were tampered with.
I have great respect for Capt. Shaukat and Capt. Sadik both of whom I know personally. I have respect for their opinions, their technical knowledge, their flying abilities, and so on. I am sure there was one/or two very good air accident investigator if they say so. But that does not cut it. You need a cadre of highly trained people who have done this sort of work before and have vast experience. I am thinking of people one reads about in the NTSB or AAIB (UK) and others. These guys/and women are smart as hell, knowledgable, experienced and have the back-up in terms of resources of the best talent in other specialized fields which has a bearing on the accident they are investigating.
With a few exceptions, we are laid back, lackluster, there is too much of this "baradri" business, a lot of back-scratching, too much conflict of interest, and just not enough talent and credibility.
I have been to the CAA website and read the bio-data of the people there. I am horrified.
But this is not only the CAA and PIA I am talking about. This, sadly, is true in all of Pakistan -- again with notable exceptions.

That plane looks almost new.
I'm surprise to see China Southern mothballing its brand new 777F's.
