Re: Lahore Airport Expansion Project
Karachi airport is still best airport and better than Lahore. The area need to be expend is waiting lounges only. Boarding hall have enough counters to facilitate all pax. It was well planned airport and still doing well without any expansion. All Pakistani airports need same planning from beginning.uzkt01 wrote: Fri Feb 17, 2017 12:41 am Karachi Airport needs modernization as well. It hasnt been touched since 90s. They should have started work in KHI first. Lahore airport did get a expansion in 2000s.

Re: Lahore Airport Expansion Project
No doubt Karachi airport despite being more than a decade old than Lahore is still far better, spacious and facilitated. In addition not only the CAA, FIA and customs staff posted is better trained and bit more professional than other airports but also the airlines/agents staff are also more efficient. Whilst there is no current capacity issue according to the traffic it handles some areas need improvement:PKPANL wrote: Sat Feb 18, 2017 2:58 pmKarachi airport is still best airport and better than Lahore. 1. Replacement of boarding bridges was long overdue but that is now in progress, there was provision of 2 additional gates each at both the satellites which can increase the number from 12 to 14.
2. Repairs and maintenance is due for the domestic side CAA should bring this at par at least with the international side.
3. All the elevators need immediate replacement, inside the terminal as well as in the concourse area.
4. Baggage reclaim belts too are now worn out so be replaced with new inclines ones (similar to those at Dubai).
5. New baggage identification system at par with the international standards both at departures and arrivals be installed
6. A food court in the connecting corridor or transit area on the international side
7. Airside presents a very barren and brown look, this needs to be properly landscaped with technical assistance from an internationally reputed landscape designer like Cracknell or Parsons

Re: Lahore Airport Expansion Project
Today Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif informed Pakistani community in Kuwait that originally planned new terminal building of Lahore Airport was reduced in size after the overthrow of his government in 1999. The terminal building (inaugurated in 2003) faces problems in handling more than two international flights at a time, he said.
Now the project to expand airport's terminal building will be launched, he informed the audience.

* Thirteen boarding bridges will be added to increase the total number of boarding bridges to twenty by the end of year 2018. Currently airport's terminal building has seven boarding bridges.
* Future plan sees total number of boarding bridges increased to thirty.
* Expanded car park will also have two underground levels.
* New approach roads will be constructed for the airport.
* Construction work expected to begin by the end of March 2017.
* The airport will become capable of handling fifteen million passengers annually after completion of expansion work.

Re: Lahore Airport Expansion Project
Good for Lahore, but Govt should also think to work on Up gradation and renovation of KHI Airport too. Providing boarding bridges is good step but some good amount of money should also be spent on KHI Airport too.
Fortune favours brave.

Re: Lahore Airport Expansion Project

Today, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited Lahore Airport to review airport's expansion project. He was accompanied by Director General Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Air Marshal (Retd) Asim Suleiman.
During the visit, Mr. Sharif advised officials that minimum/least possible green belt area should be used for airport's expansion project including new access roads. He also reviewed plan to build underground car park for the airport. Importance should be given to beautiful greenery at the airport, he said.

Re: Lahore Airport Expansion Project
According to PTV News, a meeting today chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss proposals for Lahore Airport expansion agreed over design in which construction of airport's new/expanded car park on Parks & Horticulture Authority (PHA) land is proposed. (I think land owned by CAA looked after and beautified by PHA at the airport). The meeting was attended by Director General Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Air Marshal (Retd) Asim Suleiman and others.
Mr. Sharif said that an agreement will be signed with CAA on matters regarding roads infrastructure, greenbelts and horticulture. He said that airport is being expanded keeping in mind future requirements. By using modern technology least possible green area should be used for the project and PHA in shortest possible time should complete the work of shifting trees to different locations from areas to be used for the construction work, he said.
The meeting approved start of construction work for airport's expansion.

Seems the idea of constructing underground car park has been dropped.

Abbas Bhai I think Lahore airport does have an underground parking level but isn't used for security reasons. Were they planning to expand and open it?

Re: Lahore Airport Expansion Project
^ Yes, closed entry/gate of an underground road can be near car park.
Don't know whether it's true or not but I heard that in the original design for people coming from areas like Cantonment, Gulberg, Upper & Lower Mall etc. there was a short route underground access road crossing runways, apron, terminal building before emerging in the car park. The underground road was not opened or completed for general public use for security reasons. The closed entry/exit point for that underground road can be seen in airport's car park.
