King Edward Medical University (KEMU) is claiming portion of state land allocated to Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for the establishment of General Aviation Aerodrome in Muridke.

In the long run. about hundred acers of grass runway may be better suited for Gliding and Ultralight club. A winch launch option will be better option for Gliding operations like good old days. At one time Quetta had a robust winch for Gliding club operations. Just my opinion, that private developers may need to come up with a business plan.

Groundbreaking/foundation stone laying ceremony for the construction of greenfield aerodrome for general aviation activities at Muridke will be performed on March 21.

The ceremony will be attended by Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Director General (dg) Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Khaqan Murtaza and other high ranking officials of Pakistan CAA.

Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Walton General Aviation Aerodrome in Muridke construction project groundbreaking ceremony performed on March 21, 2022. Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan was the chief guest of the ceremony.

Walton Aerodrome - Muridke project details:

* Runway length 6,000 feet width 100 feet
* 2 taxiways
* Rigid apron
* Aircraft hangars
* Perimeter fencing and boundary wall
* Administrative building and fire station
* Terminal building and Air Traffic Control (ATC) Tower
* 223 acres of land for commercial area/Special Economic Zone (SEZ)
* Basic Air Field Lighting (AFL) and Navigational Aids (NAVAIDs)

Walton General Aviation Aerodrome in Muridke expected to become operational in January 2023.

Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) seeking settlement of land issue with King Edward Medical University (KEMU) and issuance of No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the construction of Airport Road to connect Walton Aerodrome - Muridke Aviation Activity Zone with Muridke-Narowal Road. The road shall run parallel to land amid KEMU and Walton Aerodrome - Muridke. The same road shall be used to approach state land on east side of land allotted to CAA. The road shall be constructed over land under the jurisdiction of the Government of Punjab. NOC shall be required for commencement of construction works.

SUGGESTION: One 6K feet runway is not enough. My recommendation is that we also need a 5K feet grass runway for General Aviation as well. and / or Ultra light club / gliding club should acquire about 100 acres of land for their own operations.

Today, Aviation Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique at a press briefing held at Lahore Airport informed:

Night landing facility has been included in Phase-I of Walton General Aviation Aerodrome - Muridke construction project. Originally it was in Phase-II of the project.

Land to be provided to make Walton General Aviation Aerodrome possible as the second airport to serve Lahore and adjoining areas in future.

480 acres of state land in Muridke, Sheikhupura District, to be transferred to Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on deferred payment basis for the construction of new aerodrome.

Project looking good. Anyone visited the area, or have google map latest pictures. I have a hunch; that it may become new Lahore International.
So there may be one more GA aerodrome in our future. lol
