It is interesting to note that of the available 777-200ER, PIA used the newly leased ones for the Toronto route and not the older ones (AP-BGJ, AP-BGK & AP-BHX).

Is it because the older ones can't do an ultra-long haul route with a full payload? Or are they missing crew rest area, which I believe (though happy to be corrected if I am wrong) is needed for ultra-long haul route ? Or a combination of both?

If there are some sort of restrictions on the older 777-200ERs ability to do a long-haul route then this could explain why PIA acquired the LR version.

BGJ, BGK, BGL and BHX are de-rated -200ERs with reduced thrust and an MTOW of 273,969 kg, while BMG and BMH are in the highest -200ER MTOW available which is 297,552 kg.

BMG and BMH are 777-2Q8(ER) and the remainder of PIA's 772s are 777-240(ER). In this case '40' is PIA's customer code, so they had chosen specifically to order de-rated -200ERs since they probably never intended to use them for ULR flights.

BMH and BMG were delivered new to Vietnam Airlines in 2005.

These planes were used for European flights and the average sector must have been around 12 hours long, so they opted for the higher MTOW.

PIA longest sector for the 200ERs was 8.5 hours to London.

PIA 200ERs also do not have crew rest areas whereas BMG and BMH are equipped with crew rest areas, Considering this PIA should instead sell older 200ERs that is if someone would buy them, and keep these as they can compliment the LRs.

why AP-BMS cannot fly nonstop to YYZ? AP-BMS has crew rest and maximum take off 351540kg

Soon we can expect to see PIA's 200ER or 300ER flying to YYZ as one of the LR is going out for maintenance. Most probably it's going to be one out of BMH, BMG or BMS as these 3 have crew bunkers.

Yep, BGY hasn't flown to YYZ for around 10 days now if i am not wrong, no replacement either.

PIA should easily be able to do 7-9 flights to YYZ with 2 LRs.

It has now good ground time of about 6-7 hours at YYZ each day. It will take care for any maintenance needs, just in case.

Is there no 300ER capable for YYZ? While Air India use 300ER.

Back in early 2000's, PIA decided for Airbus. Then, Boeing approached overnight and bribed the politicians. A paper company, Fly PIA was created in Cayman Island to facilitate the bribes. In the process, crew rest bunkers, entertainment system and other things were compromised.

But I believe PIA still had room for refurbishment of the 777's but decided to waste money on the whole PIA premium thing which certainly was a waste in my opinion as our 777's could've refurbishment and unfortunate case of mis use of public/tax funds unfortunately.

Even the 200ers are capable of flying to YYZ. The LRs don't give PIA any major advantage. The only edge the aircraft has over the other two variants is it's range and PIA's furthest station is YYZ which can easily be catered by 300ers and 200ers, they only reason i see PIA flying them to YYZ is maybe because of crew bunkers on those aircrafts. Maybe if PIA was flying to the US west coast, the aircraft could have come in handy. Another reason could be the seating arrangement on PIA's LRs with only 275Y seats, the passengers can enjoy some extra legroom on the long haul flight.

This was the 777 departing from gate number 28 in KHI on the 12th of September.

As I was waiting for my own flight, I noticed the pilot walking towards the gate and a poor guy submissively carrying the luggage of the pilot sahib and saying jee sir jee sir. Only in PIA! Pilots of other airlines carry/drag their own luggage.

Arshad, I hope you were kidding. Never saw such a scene even with PIA pilots.
