PIA BoDs ‘never authorised’ sale of A-310 aircraft

LAHORE - Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Board of Directors (BoDs) had never authorised the sale of A-310 aircraft and had instead ordered an inquiry into the sale of one aircraft to Germany, said spokesman for the national flag carrier on Thursday.

According to DAWN News channel, Roman Schroeder who was contingent commander of the team that was responsible for sending/taking PIA Airbus A310-300 (AP-BEQ) to Malta and later to Leipzig Halle Airport has left Pakistan by Emirates flight EK-601.

Mr. Schroeder was sought by FIA for interrogation in the case of AP-BEQ.

PIA had sacked German national General Manager Technical Training PIA Training Centre (PTC) Roman Schroeder few days ago.

* PIA Airbus A310-300 (AP-BEQ), that arrived at Leipzig Halle Airport on December 5, 2016, was mentioned as Saint Nicholas Day (observed on December 6) gift for Leipzig Halle Airport at an event arranged at the airport attended by PIA officials.

* The A310 is handed over to Leipzig Halle Airport for training aircraft fire fighters.

* PIA officials say that a museum in Germany is interested in the aircraft but name of museum is not mentioned.

* Leipzig Halle Airport representative says that the airport is not a museum.

* Leipzig Halle Airport representative says that they have not bought the aircraft but are interested in using it for training fire fighters and also offer it for movie shootings.

In order to fetch a good market price, an international tender was floated for four Airbus A310-300 aircraft which appeared in July 31, 2016, for bid opening on August 31, 2016. However, no bids were received and the exercise was floated on November 9, 2016, for bid opening on December 13, 2016.

Only single bid for one A310 (without engines) at Euro 47,500 with the intention to park it in the Leipzig/Halle Airport, Germany. Accordingly, aircraft A310, AP-BEQ was transported on November 25, 2016, before the completion of formal bidding procedures. Therefore, the inquiry in respect of sale of A310, AP-BEQ has been initiated, the outcome of which is pending to date.

According to DAWN News channel, PIA is going to give advertisement for the sale of Airbus A310-300 registration AP-BEQ parked at Leipzig/Halle Airport, Germany.

The aircraft will be sold at Leipzig/Halle Airport because now it's not possible to fly it back to Pakistan, according to the news channel.

The news channel also showed October 27, 2016, PIA document about the sale of the A310 to Germany.

''Subject: Disposal of A-310 Aircraft

1. Consequent to the management's decision to retire four A-310 aircraft in fly worthy condition, Procurement and Logistics department initiated disposal activity of all four A-310 aircraft through publishing of press tender notice in leading English and Urdu news papers regrettably no request of tentative buyers were received.

2. In the meanwhile M/s Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG has contacted PIA to buy one A-310 aircraft (without engines) with the intention to park it at Leipzig/Halle Airport, initially they offered Euro 34,750 but subsequently they increased the offer to Euro 47,500. Since the aircraft will be with PIA livery therefore it will be an opportunity for PIA to brand visibility in Leipzig which will be a future transit point for PIA New York flights.

3. Previously, 4 A-310's were sold through open tender in salvage condition as per the following details:

Price: 6,730,769 (without taxes)

Tail Number: AP-BGS
Price: 6,730,769 (without taxes)

c.
Tail Number: AP-BGQ
Price: 6,730,769 (without taxes)

Price: 6,730,769 (without taxes)

4. In view of the foregoing, Management's approval is solicited to authorize transfer of one A-310 to M/s Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG at Euro 47,500 only.
