Re: Lahore Airport Expansion Project
According to City42 October 19 edition newspaper report, Lahore Airport expansion project estimated cost is 77 billion rupees. Tepsa International of Spain and Asian Consulting Engineers - Lahore have prepared and submitted Planning Commission PC-1 form for the project. Five Chinese and one Turkish company have shown interest in taking part in airport expansion project.
Construction plan divides airport into four parts that include terminal, parking, internal & external entry/exit points and main building. Expansion project will be completed in two and a half years. Civil Aviation Authority will pay construction company project completion cost in six years.

Re: Lahore Airport Expansion Project
^ When will 2.5 years start?
I thought they would finish it before election in mid 2018. Hopefully the project costing $770 million will serve the public for the next 50 years at least!
I also hope that in case the deadline is missed or project shoots higher in cost, the public doesn't bear the cost, and the construction companies are penalized. If such was the case for ISB, the airport would be completed by now.

Re: Lahore Airport Expansion Project
If Chinese firms build it will be delayed for sure here in HK many of the public works projects have been delayed for over 5 years and in some cases the government had to hire foreign companies to do damage control and finish the projects adding more to the costs.
Moral of the story don't hire Chinese companies to do your construction

Well then gov't must make them sign that any delay will be penalized and any budget going over must be paid by construction company.
But I think 2 things:
1) Gov't wants a low 77 billion cost. If actual cost is 150 billion, people will be angry about it. So they will let cost escalate
2) Chinese companies will bid really low to get project and then demand more money as time goes by

They signed contracts is such a way that they would not be fined but given more money instead to finish the work

Re: Lahore Airport Expansion Project
Lahore airport has huge security bottle necks.
Since the airport was designed a lot of roads have been blocked off and the main road to enter the airport has been reduced to a SINGLE LANE.
Recently road from DHA to airport has been restricted to only departures and you cannot approach arrivals and have to travel an extra 3-4 kilometers to reach the airport.
An expanded Lahore airport just mean BIGGER CHAOS. Once its designed then the security people start blocking road and creating traffic nightmares.
Baggage check in is another night mare.
Imagine the traffic when 2000 passengers are leaving between 1 am 2.30 am.
If the government is going to make Lahore airport a travel friendly airport then the security checks have to be in such places that do not hinder the airport approach.

Re: Lahore Airport Expansion Project
According to following corrigendum in today's (November 23) newspaper, the estimated amount of cost of external financing should be read as Rs. 35.600 billion not Rs. 35,600 billion.

Also in today's newspaper:

Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) intends to hire the services of a professional consulting firm chartered/cost & management accountants, which would perform the task as "Transaction Adviser" to evaluate and analyse the proposals of financing through external sources, banks, consurtium etc. with due dilligence to support the Expansion of Passenger Terminal Building and Allied Facilities, Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore.
