The World's Biggest Model? Is it?

Post by mhansari »

A company called Penwal Industries (based in Canada I think) is working on a gigantic project.

They are making what could be the world's biggest aircraft model - a replica of the A380 which measures 80 feet from nose to tail and has a wing span of 88 feet. Built to a scale of 1:3, the model is for Emirates Airlines, who plan to display it outside London's Heathrow Airport, at the same roundabout which used to be home to the Concorde model.

The model is being finished in 3 pieces, so it can be transported to London in an Antonov AN 225. The plane will, of course, be finished in the Emirates Livery and is expected to be completed by the end of July. It is made of fibre glass and has now entered the paint stage.

To give you an idea of how big this model is, a Boeing 737-600 is about 100 feet long. So this model, is almost as big as a Boeing 737.

I'm sure it will be a sight to see. Anybody know if this will make it the biggest model in the world?

Wow! Thanks for the info buddy.

I'm a little surprised by the size of it. The Concorde was comparably pretty small and it took up a significant part of the area it was displayed in.

Look forward to seeing it.

Do you have more details about it's current location, i haven't heard anything of this nature as yet, i would like to check it out and get back to folks on here.

As far as i know AN-225 only came to Canada once and that was in 1989 at Vancouver air show. It will be a sight to see if it came to Toronto to pick up this model!..

Again a Emirates Model :)
A Emirates Model is already at karachi Clifton in a large scale.
http://www.pakistaniaviation.com/photo_ ... 022004.htm

And a other one will be at London, I think it is that Project.
At London heathrow they will replace the Concorde with a EK A380 and I think that will be that big Aircraft Model.
Best Regards / Wa´alaikumusalam
