We also have to be nimble. For example, the 777-200LR has space for auxiliary fuel tanks. We planned on testing instruments to monitor the auxiliary tanks, but they weren't installed, so we could not test it. The customer has since decided to add the tanks, so it will be tested at a later time before delivery.

I wouldnt be too sure about that.
They dont really need the extra tanks for any of their routes, so im not too sure they are spending the extra money and sacrificing the cargo space.
We'll never know till the first plane gets here though will we.

I just quoted you from Boeings own website that PIA will have the 777-200LR delivered with the extra fuel tanks in!

As far as I can ascertain, the fuel tanks may be in place for a proving/test flight by either Boeing or PIA-

Perhaps a LAX routing from Pakistan is on the cards early next year sometime?

As for cargo, Im sure Boeing wouldnt have designed the extra tanks to significantly reduce the cargo uplift capability. After all, afte the 747, the 777 has the highest loading density per square foot for cargo- so to say the tanks waste space is a non issue as far as the -200LR is concerned.

Getting a 777-200LR without aux fuel tanks defeats the object of the "longer range". PIA will need those extra tanks for nonstops to Chicago & LA.

True, however that is still achieveable with the -200ERs, however they would be severely weight restricted.

With the -200LR, there would be no such restrictions, since LAX would be reachable in about 16 hours non stop....
