Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has advised airlines/ground handling agents working at airports of Pakistan to prevent passengers traveling to Turkiye from carrying Areca Nuts/Challiya which comes under narcotics/drugs category in Turkiye and is banned there.

Recently, a Pakistan passenger mistakenly carrying paan chhalia was sent to jail in Turkiye.

Information was issued by the Consulate General of Pakistan, Istanbul, informing Turkish officials about the legal status of Areca Nuts in Pakistan.
Later, the arrested man was released by Turkiye after official Pakistan intervention.

PIA has advised its cabin crew not to consume or carry saunf supari/areca nuts/challia on flights to Istanbul/Turkiye where these items are considered narcotics.
