Finally having an Ambassador appointed after several years will help with this. Various lobby’s consistently blocked appointments to weaken diplomatic engagements with Pakistan.

Going back to Cat 1 is important but also, similarly to what the UK high commissioner did a few years ago, if we work/negotiate to bring threat assessments down for at least Islamabad, that could open to the door American carriers. Currently Pakistan does not even get UPS or Fedex let alone scheduled passenger services.

Neither direct or indirect,it’s just a figment of imagination by the current government to divert attention.
PIA and the government do not have the resources to add additional long haul aircraft let along get the current fleet back in the air.

Agreed - Recategorisation of Pakistan/PCAA won’t directly translate to resumption of direct services. Activation and/or refurbishment of the 772LR and 773 fleet would take significant resources and would be needed to make those services viable.

Seems unlikely but hope to see the day where a 777-300ER from KHI drifts back into JFK.

Also this would open the door for other domestic carriers.

The Biden administration has shown its willingness on “resuming the process” to allow Pakistan International Airlines’ direct access to the US, said head of PM Strategic Reforms Unit Salman Sufi.

Talking to the media on Thursday after his meetings with the White House National Security Council director Courtney Dunn and Direct International Economic Affairs, NSC, Sufi said his talks covered wide-ranging issues, including resumption of PIA direct flights to the US.

For the purpose, he also had a meeting with a delegation of the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Department of Transportation (DOT) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA), where he stressed to expedite the process for resumption of PIA direct flights from Pakistan to the United States.

He noted that New Islamabad Airport was well equipped as per international standards to meet the TSA’s requirements.
