PIA Board of Directors meeting

Post by Charliedelta11 »

i was going through dawns article on the board of directors meeting...and apparently it ahs finally dawned on the PIA management that they desperately need to modernise their ENTIRE fleet and not jsut add in a few nice planes...they are going for the A310F series and 12 Boeing 777's...and are also looking at narrow body planes..what do u think they'll get ? i'd say the 757 should suffice...would make a nice alternative to the A310..and PIA is aslo looking at Australia and Rio de Janeiro...What planes would they operate ? A310 ? At the moment thats the only aircraft that has the range and can be used on these routes..the 777 family would be better off on trans atlantic...wat do u all say ? considering the fact that LAX is on the frawing board and the 747-300's are nearing their end...

There priority should be to get rid of those ancient 74Ms. I think PIA should look at the A321 for their medium capacity aircrafts.

PIA business plan envisages network expansion

ISLAMABAD, Sept 12: The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA)'s Board of Directors on Monday approved the business plan 2006-2011 in its 289th meeting held here.

The plan encompasses improved business processes and systems, and also envisages expansion of PIA's network, whereby it would be operating in all the five continents by the end of the set period. The destinations to be added to the PIA routes include Glasgow, Los Angeles, Johannesburg, Rio de Janeiro, Melbourne/Sydney, Cairo, Damascus, Baghdad, Tehran, Istanbul, Zurich, Shanghai, Seoul, Almaty and Madrid/Barcelona.

The plan also envisages increase in passenger traffic at an average annual growth rate of eight per cent, and in cargo traffic at 12 per cent during the planned period.

To cope with the increase in traffic, the plan suggests incorporation of 12 Boeing 777 family aircraft, 10 new-technology turbo props, three new-generation medium-capacity aircraft, three Airbus A310 freighters and seven new-technology narrow-body aircraft.

The board members appreciated the management's efforts in developing the business plan that aimed at improving customer services.

The meeting, presided over by PIA Chairman and CEO Tariq Kirmani, was attended by Nawid Ahsan, Dr Sughra Junejo, Asad Ali Khan, Air Marshal (retired) Pervez Akhtar Nawaz, Syed Mohammad Fazal Agha, Maj-Gen (retired) Mohammad Ashraf Chaudhry, M.H.K. Khaishgi and Javed Saifullah Khan.

This is good news, but unfortunately good fodder for the speculators too. Be prepared to hear about all sorts of enquiries and speculations taking place and the so-called elusive 'experts' who'll be stating their pearls of wisdom.

I always belived the A310F as the best freighter option for PIA and as a matter of fact I had mentioned it so in a letter to Ahmed Saeed. A mix of A320/321 would be a good single aisle option for PIA and it looks like these 12 B777's they're talking about, are full and final replacements for the 747's.

So are these the last 747's that PIA will ever have in its fleet?

As PIA only has 8 777's on order, of which three -200ERs are in service, does this mention of 12 777's as 12 follow on orders or a total of 12 in service including the 8 previously ordered??

I believe it is talking about the total number of 777s. They ordered 8, maybe they have option for more.

The Airbus family has many advantages from the training point of view as , can cross crew in 10 days 320/321/330. The payload on the A330 is quite good as well as the range and ofcourse very versatile and flexible operations.

Training costs can be drastically cut down along with mix fleet operations can further cut costs.

PK cannot support half of these destinations even with 2 weekly flights.

Cross crew flexibility is a small aspect- the bigger savings are made with the choice of airplane used on any given route-

For the current long haul fleet of PIA, the 777 family is unrivalled in both lower cost and lower fuel burn compared to any Airbus A330/A340 variant either in service or proposed.

This is primarily one of the reasons the 777 was selected over the A330/A340 at PIA.
