Re: 1947, Qantas flight route via Karachi
Until early 1990's Karachi served as a Hub / Stop-Over point for flights from Aust & Asia onto Europe.
I remember flying PR (Philippine airlines) from BKK-KHI (the flight route was BKK-KHI-CDG). Many Asian & European carriers used to stop at KHI before DXB was even on the map. Then terrorism set in, DXB got built up rapidly and KHI (along with Pakistan itself) got forgotten about.
I would love to see the day that western carriers return to PK as a destination. BA's flight to ISB is start - but still a long away. Pakistan has soo much tourism potential, the northern arears are magnificent in beauty, meanwhile Lahore has so much history and architecture and Karachi is as modern as any other city on the sub-continent. InshaAllah Pakistan will find itself on the Tourism Map!

And, that's why there was a hotel named Midway House near Karachi Airport for transit passengers in the midway of their travel between the East and the West.

These Good Old times will never come back. Karachi & Other Pakistani airports are total trash. So are the Aviation Policies. i.e Pakistan Airport Tax.

Keep dreaming guys and gals ….... The only airline that could have developed a hub was PIA...…..good times for Pakistani airports are gone for ever
Regarding our Northern area as a tourist destination.....the area can only cater for back packers....no infrastructure for the high or medium spenders.
