Law Minister Replies to Karachi Airport Incident

Wasi clarifies Karachi airport incident

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Muhammad Wasi Zafar stated on Tuesday that newspapers reported the Karachi airport incident in a scandalising manner, without ascertaining actual facts.

He said, "Nowadays the newspapers are propagating against him and his son and are publishing baseless news stories without investigation/confirmation of the facts. Columnists are also scandalizing without any confirmation of the nature and facts of the incident."

"After publishing the incident no person from media bothered to talk to me about the said incident even after the passage of two days nor anyone asked from the involved person namely Mujeeb about the matter.

He stated, "So far only two journalists have asked him about the nature of the incident, out of them one after three days of publication of news about the situation. That is why I deemed it fit not to say anything about the matter because media attempted to make the issue out of non-issue."

The minister said, "As a matter of principle it was necessary to confirm the facts from the concerned parties before publishing stories."

In this way the media became plaintiff and judge by itself, Wasi Zafar said, adding, it was not expected from the senior columnists to write on any issue without investigating the facts.

...and in in saying that, the minister, as can be plainly seen, has sidestepped the issue completely. Notice he does not bother to go into the "actual facts" that he claims should have been investigated by the media.

Mr. Wasi Zafar:

I need to be educated about the facts from your side, instead you being quite. If you don't reply to the charges or complaint against you in 10 days, the media and the courts will assume whatever has been published against you from eye witness accounts is TRUE.

So please defend yourself.
