aviation updates from mauritius

Post by mac777 »

1.emirates will be upgauging to 2 daily a380 flights as from 1 st december from currently 1a380 and 1 3class b777-300
2.China southern started once weekly flights from shenzen using A333. air mauritius currently flies to hong kong (a332),shanghai pudong x3/wk and beijing x2/wk using A343 following increase in chinese tourists.the reason for flights from shenzen is not well understood unless it is to get a share of the hongkong-mru market.most mauritians travel to guanzhou for business.hence a guanzhou-mru was expected.
finally air mauritius announced (finally) their decision to continue with an all airbus jet fleet.they ordered 6 a350-900 to replace their 6 ageing a340-300 (the oldest one bieng alomost 20yrs).they had to choose between a350 and b787-900.the first 2 are scheduled for delivery in 2017( leased from aer cap).
hope this time it wont be a mistake- their order in 2005 was finally not too well inspired as they ordered additional a340-300 when the trend was already for b777.

Any possibilities MK launching direct flights to Colombo? I heard SriLankan is interested in introducing new destinations in indian ocean and in Africa. Hopefully UL will fly Mauritius as well.

emirates has pulled forward the introduction of its 2nd daily a380 to 26 oct instead of 1st dec 14,citing high demand.
imho, chances for MK flights to colombo is nil.MK is focussing only on some 'hubs' and not really looking forward to expand their network. with their agreements with EK and AF they dont really need to reach all the markets directly.

some upates for 2015
- air mauritius added once weekly flights to chegdu with A343( in addition to beijing, shanghai an HK). tourists from china are providing a boost to the local tourism.
-mahan air 'quietly' operated 3 charter flights from tehran with A343.there is not much activity btw these 2 countries.it came as a surprise after some1 caught a video of the first flight.
-austrian airlines started once weekly from vienna in october.
-lufthansa made its comeback with twice weekly flights from frankfurt with A343.
the BIG EVENT is Turkish airlines started their flights to mauritius today.initially it will be a x3/wk until feb. its a tag-on with antananarivo in /madagascar. emirates will soon feel the competition. TK is offering some flights with some crazy backtrack like india/bangkok ect via IST. and the equipment used is A343.
Mauritius is the place to see A343 with its 6 birds and SAA also frequently sending theirs!

After a long absence a few updates.
The latest newcomers are 1. KLM
2. Saudia
Both of them are operating x3/ week with b787-9.
Turkish Airlines are now x5/week with A330-300 equipment.

In the meantime Air Asia X had a brief trial in 2016 and stopped after a few months. Many Mauritians got the opportunity to visit Malaysia at really cheap fares.
Air Mauritius welcomed its 2 brand new A350-900 in nov 17. They are also expecting 2 A330-900 this year.
They have resumed once weekly seasonal Geneva flights and will take over from klm for the amsterdam flights in the summer season. Once weekly Guanzhou flights have also been started.
