Air intakes were opened up when this model was first built, in those days IC glow ducted fan engines were only available for jet models, OS91 VRDF and OS77 VRDF engines, either could be used with Dynamax fans or Ramtec fan units, those engines and fans needed to draw in a lot of air volume through the ducts and fan units to produce enough thrust (12lbs) depending on air density of the day one would want to fly his DF jets. If air's not good on the day of the flight DF engines won't even produce 10 lbs of thrust!!..Che wrote:Intakes are bigger then the original...but may just be the function of little turbines you'll be fitting into this model and how much air they require...
I am looking to go electric conversion set up on this model with twin Dyna E max fans with high KV motors, speed controllers (ESCs) and 12C Lipo 5000mah batteries. With this set up i will always get 15.7 lbs of static thrust from one fan constantly without worrying about losing an engine while in flight, with older DF technology it's good possibility to lose an engine while in flight!. I hope expanse for this conversion will be a lot less then cost of turbine engines or if not, then i will go back to DF engines with twin OS91 small head engines and take my chances!...
With Dyna E max conversion i don't need to make full length internal ducts Vs with DF engines, i will be making full ducting right from intake lips to exhaust nozzles!.
