Air intakes were opened up when this model was first built, in those days IC glow ducted fan engines were only available for jet models, OS91 VRDF and OS77 VRDF engines, either could be used with Dynamax fans or Ramtec fan units, those engines and fans needed to draw in a lot of air volume through the ducts and fan units to produce enough thrust (12lbs) depending on air density of the day one would want to fly his DF jets. If air's not good on the day of the flight DF engines won't even produce 10 lbs of thrust!!..

I am looking to go electric conversion set up on this model with twin Dyna E max fans with high KV motors, speed controllers (ESCs) and 12C Lipo 5000mah batteries. With this set up i will always get 15.7 lbs of static thrust from one fan constantly without worrying about losing an engine while in flight, with older DF technology it's good possibility to lose an engine while in flight!. I hope expanse for this conversion will be a lot less then cost of turbine engines or if not, then i will go back to DF engines with twin OS91 small head engines and take my chances!...

With Dyna E max conversion i don't need to make full length internal ducts Vs with DF engines, i will be making full ducting right from intake lips to exhaust nozzles!.

Some classic early days DF jets footage for all to enjoy...

It has combination of DF and early turbine powered jets, you will see the difference!

Brand newer EDF (Electric Ducted Fan Technology) powered F-20 "Tigershark", this model is powered with converted Dyna E Max fan and super strong electric motor!...

This model is 27lbs and performed Super!!!, think about two of these fans in my Arrow, it will be a bullet!!!!

Both top wing fences are made and now glued on the cap fairings. Once glue dries completely between fences and cap fairing strips, i will blend all the edges of the fairing strips to the wing and then glue them on the wings.

I was thinking on making fiberglass moulds for these fences but they are so light, i doubt 1oz of weight will make any difference!...

All edges of the cap fairing strips are sanded on slight angle so fiberglass will stick nicely on these joints. I used grit 150 dry paper to this once glue dried completely. I changed my mind from directly sticking fairing strips on the wing at this time, i will be adding another spar in this wing so main LG could be secured on them and they will take all the load of the model.

Right OB wing notch's LE was slightly curved in, i added 4 small balsa strips to that tip and then sanded it into nice crisp notch tip and applied nice layer of CA all over the fix to seal it.

Wing's bottom fences are being made in this picture but i have already sanded both to get right, smooth profile on both top and middle one.

They are different in profile as can be seen in the picture below.

Very bottom of the 3 is the top wing fence with fairing, see the difference in profile!

Finishing off Saw tooth notches:

Yesterday i spent some time on right wing's Saw tooth notch, i wanted to give it nice crisp inner surface. To do this i used 1/64" ply sheet. I made outlines of the notch side walls by placing ply sheet's piece against the walls, then i cut it close to marked outline. These were then glued to both inner side walls with CA and GP Aliphatic resin. I used CA to tack it on at the right spot and AR to secure these permanently to the wall sides. I also had to use making tape to keep them tight against the side walls till glue fully cured. Once cured then i sanded it smooth to the wing's top n bottom surface.

By adding these pieces i achieved nice straight and crisp inner side walls in the notch, i will be doing same on the left side.

Ok, least now you know to keep watching it. Yeah it's labor of love when it comes to scratch built models, specially these giant scale birds!.... :)

Fuselage former templates:

I need few fuselage formers to be made and glued in side this fuselage, I started making these by using my contour gauge from out side fuselage first and making rough marking on a Bristol board. Then i shrink-ed all the sides by 1/8" to capture inner fuselage profile. Well let say inner side is bit rough n different then out side!. I had to make many repeated adjustments to get the right shape by trimming all round and also by adding where need to from scrap left over piece of Bristol board cuttings. After all this i have so far made first of the 3-4 former templates ready for wood cutting stage, 2nd one is just rough profile for now.

No#1 and #2 will have DynEmax fans mounted on them with rails going through them under the tail/fin section inside the fuselage.

Ole covering removal from wing bottoms commencing:

Model was flipped on it's back and then started to remove the ole plastic covering from bottom left wing. It took me 1hr to get to this far. Most came of nicely but was stripped in small pieces instead of larger ones, why it took 1hr to remove it. A lot of color pigment is left on the wings surface, once i get covering off from right wing's bottom, i will start sanding both wings lightly so pigment is removed from the surface.

Guys,

I have done a lot more work on my Arrow since last update.
I will update here soon as it gets too much to update 4-5 sites for the same information all the time. Right now Arrow is going through major structural modification and i'm making fiberglass sheets myself to use as newer skin of this model at certain forward sections of the fuselage.

Fuselage section behind and around the main air intakes is not scale at all, due to this air intakes themselves are not scale either. Fuselage sides are extended outwards that looks weird and funny. Since this is one of kind model and all this work is being put on the project i had to cut intakes off from the fuselage at the lips including ramp and fence as one unit and then cut the sides of fuselage to reposition fuselage sides to scale locations (1/2" inwards from Stn 292 to Stn 202 of the fuselage). This is huge task itself and i have taken it on. Due to this, when right intake lip was cut out, there is big section from forward fuselage side is cut out also below the cockpit section. To fill these open sections i needed to come up with idea that would be solid and rigid to take the high speed airflow/pressure and the stress upon due to pressure. Well i decided to make fiberglass skin from raw material right from scratch.

It took two tries to make newer fiberglass sheet in order to cut these required sections from and build them into sides of forward fuselage. Finally after few hours of work and few days of wait for the epoxy resin to fully cure i ended up with great results. My fiberglass sheet is nice, light and very strong. I will be making fuselage skin sections and parts that are flat from this sheet.

This project has taken newer direction once again, first was to move up to DynEmax EDF conversion for propulsion system and now moving Arrow from original Mk1 to Mk6 variant, this Mk6 variant was under development and actually under construction at Avro Canada's plant under extreme secrecy mode back then before whole project was canceled by our messed up and senseless conservative government of 50s!!, some of this information is now released 50 years later by remaining some draftsmen who were working on this project back then!...I will update soon with newer Mk6 variant for my model.
