On average the starting salary is anything in between 30,000 to 40,000 pounds. 35,000 is a good figure though.

Some airlines are known to pay 45,000 to newly qualified First Officers.

These figures include flight pay etc.

Thank you. I believe these are annual salaries. Well by the way what is the pay structure. Is it a basic fixed salary with flying allownces or is it that you are paid on per hour basis?

Yes these are anual salaries before tax. Tax is quite high in the UK.

You are usually paid a fixed 'basic' salary and then on top of that you have 'flight pay' or 'duty pay' (both are pretty much the same thing). How flight pay or duty pay is calculated vary from airline to airline. Some pay an hourly rate, some pay a daily rate, some pay per the number of sectors flown. Usually they add up to the same amount in either case. Flight or duty pay normally gives you an extra 10% on top of your basic salary and also it is not taxed as much as your basic salary. However, with Ryanair the majority of your annual salary is made up from your flight pay. Their basic salary is not very much, but they compensate for that with very good flight pay.

A good website for pay scales is http://www.ppjn.com. Some detailes are outdated but it still gives a good representation of basic salary and flight/duty pay etc.
