Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has renewed Juzzak Airstrip license to facilitate workers traveling by air for Saindak Copper-Gold Project.

The renewed license for the airstrip has been presented to China's MCC Resources Development Company (Pvt) Limited (MRDL) which is exploring and developing mines under the Saindak Copper-Gold Project. MRDL is a subsidiary of the state-owned Metallurgical Construction Corporation (MCC) of China.

The air travel will ensure direct and fast access to the project and boost Balochistan's economic growth.

Juzzak airstrip was initially built as mud strip in 1980s and was licensed by Pakistan CAA in 1996. The airstrip was used by chartered small aircraft transporting Pakistani and foreign workers of copper and gold mines exploration and development in Saindak, Balochistan.

The airstrip was abandoned and its license got expired in 2004.

On August 20, 2021, request was made to Pakistan CAA by Chairman MRDL He Xuping for airstrip license renewal.

Pakistan CAA allowed up-gradation of the airstrip to make it operational for safe air travel of workers for further development of the project. Pakistan CAA Directorate of Aerodrome & Aerospace Regulations team undertook the inspection and completed all regulatory formalities to renew airstrip license.

On August 31, 2021, Director General Pakistan CAA Flight Lieutenant (Retired) Khaqan Murtaza presented renewed license of the airstrip to Chairman MRDL He Xuping.

Only one ATR 72-500 registration AP-BKY was returned by PIA to the aircraft leasing company in December 2020.

Three ATR 72-500 registrations AP-BKX, AP-BKV and AP-BKZ still with PIA. Out of these three apparently only AP-BKX is active and performing PIA flights these days.

Locals will be encouraged to travel by air from & to Juzzak Airport instead of traveling by road for hours to reach other airports located hundreds of kilometers away.

The airport is 20 kilometers away from Saindak Copper-Gold Project site.
