Why is this worrisome? This has always been the pattern.

On any given day, most number of International passengers flew in and out of country are from Karachi. Since PIA is not able to cater this demand due to feeble flight operation most of the passengers spill to ME3 and to TK from Karachi.
PRe Covid time generally there were 12+ Daily flights from KHI to DXB, and most of the passengers using EK are destined for destinations beyond Dubai. Above statement looks correct to me.

Can anyone shed some light on the status of transit passengers on Emirates or Etihad? Do they only need a PCR from a certified lab as before, or even the Dubai transiting passengers need a PCR test four hours prior to flight departure?

I asked EK if transiting PAX need a Rapid Test, and they said no. You only need the 72 hours before PCR Test from an approved lab, with a QR Code.

It is announced that to qualify as a "transit passenger", transit must be under 10 hour. The cancellation is not surprising as this rule was only announced a week ago.
Rest statement is true - i also asked Emirates and they said transit pax dont need rapid PCR - just a PCR taken within 72 hours of departure.
