How much money has the government pumped into PIA (as loans) to cover its losses verus how much money has CAA made in landing rights from the big airlines in the middle east and Turkey.
By allowing Emirates,Qatar, Etihad, Fly Dubai, and Turkish unlimited access to Pakistani airports we have killed our own aviation sector.
PIA business since 2004 must have dropped by 50% since 2004 with the number of wide bodies dropping from 28 aircraft to 12.
2003 being the last year PIA made a net profit.
PIA losses since 2004 should be around 4 billion dollars. Not only that CAA policies also led to the decline of Shaheen Air your second largest airline.
Was open skies worth it???/
Karachi airport has had no major addition since 1990. If open skies was such a good idea why did we not see the airport expand???
Open skies just led to capacity dumping by Middle Eastern airlines killing the flights PIA could operate out of Karachi.

Re: CAA Profits versus PIA losses since 2004
Correct if wrong, CAA like body is not suppose to make profit. The very purpose is to facilitate aviation through their policy & infrastructure for socio-economic development. However, an airline can and should make profit.
In Pakistan, it seems that CAA is made profit making machine which ultimately leads to pockets of passengers in-out of Pakistan paying for very heavy tickets and in no way this promotes aviation. Pakistan being 5 largest country by population which sizeable land area has only 40 or so commerical jets (pia, sareen, air sial ,airblue combined) and handful of foreign airlines and few airports.

Re: CAA Profits versus PIA losses since 2004
2004 was the last year in which PIA reported profit.
The airline has been reporting losses since year 2005.
