COVID-19 Vaccination of Pakistani Airport and Airline Frontline Workers

Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) employees union in a letter to Director General (DG) CAA has sought COVID-19 vaccination of CAA frontline workers performing duties at airports. A number of CAA operational side workers already have lost their lives due to coronavirus, says the letter.

Maybe employees of Pakistani airlines especially aircraft crew including pilots and flight attendants should also be vaccinated now.

250 PIA aircraft crew including pilots and flight attendants have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

PIA has set a target to be the first Pakistani airline with all vaccinated crew by the middle of May 2021.

More than 400 pilots and 700 flight attendants of PIA have received first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. They will receive second dose of vaccine by the second week of May.

In the second phase, PIA booking offices and traffic staff will be vaccinated.

Directive has been issued for COVID-19 vaccination of all above the age of thirty years employees of Pakistan CAA, airlines employees, airport functionaries, security personnel working at airports of Pakistan.

All airport workers above the age of thirty years have been directed to submit their details including name, phone number, identity card number etc. by June 3 for vaccination registration.

Airport workers at Islamabad Airport have been vaccinated. Arrangements for administrating vaccine was made at the airport.

Vaccinated airport workers include CAA employees, ASF personnel, airline ground staff, ground handling agencies employees etc.

Pakistan Civil Aviation Authorities (CAA) has directed its employees to get vaccinated against COVID-19 by July 31, 2021 (or at least get first dose) otherwise they will not be allowed to enter office/airport premises from August 1, 2021, and their absence from the service shall be treated as Extra Ordinary Leave (EOL) without pay and allowances.

According to news sources, PIA has given its employees deadline of August 13 to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

After August 13, fine of PKR 300 on unvaccinated staff and PKR 500 on unvaccinated officers will be imposed per day. Administrative action will also be taken against them.
