NAB to File Reference Against Former Chairman PIA and Aviation Adviser in CEO PIA Appointment Case

According to news sources, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is going to file references against former Secretary Aviation and Chairman PIA Squadron Leader (Retd.) Muhammad Irfan Elahi and former Adviser to the Prime Minister on Aviation Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan Abbasi.

Both are accused of making illegal appointment of Dr. Musharraf Rasool Cyan as PIA Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

NAB files reference against former adviser

ISLAMABAD: Rawalpindi National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed a reference against former adviser to prime minister on civil aviation and senior PML-N leader Mehtab Ahmed Khan in illegal appointment of Musharraf Rasool Cyan as PIA CEO.

Besides Mehtab Ahmed Khan, the other accused in the reference were Civil Aviation Secretary Muhammad Irfan Elahi, Chief HR Officer M Raheel Ahmed, PIA ex-CEO Muhsarraf Rasool Cyan, and Tariq Mehmood Pasha

The Supreme Court of Pakistan vide order dated 22.07.2018 passed in Case No 42697-S/2018, referred NAB to ascertain the validity of appointment of CEO, PIACL.

The reference was filed by investigation officer Ahmed Saeed Wazeer before the Judge Accountability Court, Islamabad on 27.06.2019.

According to NAB, during investigation, it is established that the accused, PIA ex-CEO Muhammad Irfan Elahi, Chief HR Officer M Raheel Ahmed, ex-Advisor Civil Aviation Mehtab Ahmed Khan and Tariq Mehmood Pasha of Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Limited herein after referred as PIACL, knowingly with mala fide intentions through misuse of authority appointed accused Musharraf Rasool Cyan as Chief Executive Officer(CEO) by violating relevant rules and laws.

Former Adviser to Prime Minister on Civil Aviation and senior PML-N leader Mehtab Ahmed Khan Abbasi, former Secretary Aviation Muhammad Irfan Elahi, former CEO PIA Muhsarraf Rasool Cyan and Tariq Mehmood Pasha appeared in Accountability Court No. 1 on July 17.

The court took notice of the absence of former PIA Chief Human Resources Officer Raheel Ahmed named in the case.

The court ordered presence of all accused in next hearing of the case on August 1.

Court issued arrest warrant for former PIA Chief Human Resources Officer Raheel Ahmed who was absent again. The arrest warrant was cancelled after he appeared in the court. Attendance of all accused was registered at the court.

Court ordered NAB to submit copies of reference in next hearing of the case that will take place on August 29. The court also ordered all accused to be present in next hearing.

NAB was again unable to submit reference copies at Accountability Court hearing of the case on August 29.

All accused including former Adviser to Prime Minister on Civil Aviation and senior PML-N leader Mehtab Ahmed Khan Abbasi, former Secretary Aviation Muhammad Irfan Elahi, former CEO PIA Muhsarraf Rasool Cyan, former PIA Chief Human Resources Officer Raheel Ahmed and Tariq Mehmood Pasha attended the court hearing and their attendance was registered.

The case was heard by duty judge Shahrukh Arjumand because judge Muhammad Bashir was on leave.

Next hearing of the case will take place on September 23.

The case was heard by Judge Muhammad Bashir. Next hearing of the case will take place on October 29. Two witnesses - Arshad Ali and Mashhood Tajwar - also summoned to appear in next hearing.

October 29, Islamabad Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir heard the case. All five accused Mehtab Ahmed Khan Abbasi, Muhammad Irfan Elahi, Muhsarraf Rasool Cyan, Tariq Mehmood Pasha and Raheel Ahmed were present in the court.

During the hearing, statement of Mashood Tajwar was recorded and cross examined.

Prosecution's witness Robina Nazneen will record her statement in next hearing of the case on November 26.

Mehtab Abbasi Granted Exemption From Hearing In NAB Reference

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Dec, 2019 ) : An Accountability Court (AC) on Tuesday granted a permanent exemption from hearing to Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Leader Sardar Mehtab Abbasi in a case pertaining to illegal appointments in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

An Accountability Court conducted the hearing on a case against five accused including Abbasi regarding the alleged illegal appointments in PIA.

During the course of proceeding, the court noted that the prosecution witnesses summoned for testimony had appeared without the case record.

On this stage, the court ordered the witness to appear on January 21, along withthe case record.

The court also accepted the request of Sardar Mehtab Abbasi and granted him a permanent exemption from hearing.

The National Accountability Bureau Rawalpindi had filed corruption reference against several people including senior leader of PML-N and former advisor Civil Aviation Mehtab Ahmed Khan Abbasi, Muhammad Irfan Elahi, ex- Secretary Civil Aviation, M. Raheel Ahmed, Chief HR Officer, Muhsarraf Rasool Cyan, former CEO PIA, Tariq Mehmood Pasha in illegal appointment of Muhsarraf Rasool Cyan as CEO PIA.

Islamabad Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir heard the case on March 9. Mehtab Ahmed Khan Abbasi was absent due to exemption from appearing in the court granted to him. Other accused including Muhammad Irfan Elahi and Muhsarraf Rasool were present in the court.

Case hearing adjourned till March 20 due to absence of witnesses. Witnesses have been directed to appear in next hearing.
