PIA ATR Collides With Grounded Shaheen Air Boeing 737 at Karachi Airport

PIA ATR 72-500 (aircraft registration AP-BKW) has collided with grounded Boeing 737-400 (aircraft registration AP-BJU) of Shaheen Air at Karachi Airport.

The aircraft's engine number one propeller is damaged. Fuel leak also reported from the aircraft.

This aircraft just came out from hangar after Heavy maintenance 3C check and was supposed to perform a test flight before entering into service. Already ATR-72 have shortage of operational fleet and now this incident will detoriate the situation more.

Karachi, November 24, 2018: An ATR aircraft parked at Engineering Hangar, during routine maintenance engine check up slightly hit a salvaged skeleton of aircraft parked nearby. PIA spokesman said on Saturday.

The ATR aircraft's propeller got damaged An immediate inquiry has been ordered and initiated.There was no human or material loss due to the incident as it was empty. Furthermore there was no fire hazard and all safety precautions were taken, PIA spokesman concluded.

If it hit with running props, engine is done with. Minimum would need major overhaul.

PIA aircraft hits parked Shaheen Air plane in Karachi

November 25, 2018

KARACHI: A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) aircraft hit a parked plane during routine engine testing near a hangar at Karachi airport on Saturday.

The ATR aircraft was undergoing some repairs at the engineering hangar while the parked plane belonged to a private airline.

Official sources said the aircraft was towed from the hangar and its engines were switched on for testing. While it was moving towards the parking area, its brakes failed and the plane hit a non-functional and parked aircraft of the Shaheen International Airlines.

However, a PIA spokesperson said that during routine engine check-up the plane “slightly hit a salvaged skeleton of aircraft parked nearby” due to which its propeller got damaged. The PIA management did not cite any reason for the incident but said an inquiry had been launched to look into the episode.

According to news sources:

From initial inspections it looks like PIA ATR 72-500 (AP-BKW) is damaged beyond repair or beyond economical repair. The turboprop aircraft's left wing is bent and damaged badly.
