At the current ISB airport. There are only 6 parking areas for heavies. And then some additional space for small/medium jets.
New ISB airport will have 10 gates to cater the heavies/small/medium. Plus additional parking areas for loading/unloading via the buses if needed.
Looks like the aircraft handling capacity will be doubled, based solely on the number of gates. And looking at the terminal design its certainly scaleable, as the traffic grows the terminal could be extended and new gates added.
Not to mention the capacity increase with in the terminal to handle the passengers.
And the current ISB airport is rated the worst airport in the world. I think we can safely assume that the new terminal will be a tad bit better.

They should've made at least 3 runways rather than just 2 for a "big" international airport.

Corruption is rampant everwhere, I won't be surprised if this project goes to 2018/2019 at least. The work seems very slow.

^ The second runway seen in those aerial photos will be used mainly as taxiway. It will be used as runway when primary runway is unavailable. Those two runways are not designed for simultaneous operations, according to a news report. Distance between the two is not enough for simultaneous operations.

CAA has indicated plans to acquire more land to construct another runway. Apparently, due to lower air traffic at the moment, there's no urgent requirement for another runway for simultaneous operations on two runways at Islamabad.

Why 2016? Only 10% works remaining & it will take to complete 2016, what a joke news by CAA.

Why CAA spend 1 Billion for this worst airport of the world? I hope that in 2015, this airport will take 1st position of the worst airport again.
